Today

Any realistic expectations for announcements today, the cutoff day?

Several posters have said that the cutoff date doesn't mean anything.

The only announcement would be Chandler, and nothing is happening today.

You're right, LJSA.... The cutoff date doesn't mean anything. It's the last day for kids to sign off on their LOI. That's about it. Otherwise, a kid can do the same thing Robert Upshaw did when he committed to K-State. They can sign a financial aid agreement.

FWIW if my kid was a D1 prospect I would have him think long and hard about ever signing an LOI. If the staff had issues with him signing a Financial Aid agreement I'd assure them that provided the Head Coach doesn't leave and the school doesn't receive any NCAA sanctions between the signing and show up day he'll be there but it protects the kid in case the situation he's committing to changes between signing and arrival on campus.

I think that's very wise advice.

Except very few kids have that kind of leverage and I bet most coaches would take that as a sign of non-committal and move on, or at least not promise to hold the ship open.

And that's why it's just think long and hard and not a direct order. ;)

I am talking about someone who's good enough to choose, within reason, the BCS school he wants to got to. If you're going to play for K or Roy or Self or Matta or Izzo and a select few others that's one thing but most coaches/programs are one bad season/scandal/other away from major changes.

For example, and leaving STJ out of it due to my bias, in the BE I'd feel pretty confident about signing for Wright, Dixon and JTIII, they seem stable and loyal, maybe Brey fits in that list two, I'd be afraid Buzz, Cronin, Heath might leave for a bigger job if they have another good year. I'd be worried about Calhoun, Boeheim, Huggins retiring. I'd be worried about Louisville jumping to the B12 and Pitino quitting. I'm not sure I'd be wowed by any of the other four enough to take the risk. So I wouldn't sign with a BE team in November. If you're good enough you'll find a ride an a good program/school when it's time to decide (heck there's always lots of space at Kentucky), and if forced the end of spring signing period is a far better time to commit to this type of decision rather than in November.

Especially when a coach tells a kid he's offered to two guys at his position and the first to sign gets the 'ship.

To which I'd have my son reply I've offered my services to three coaches and the first to get me a date with Blake Lively gets me into their uniform, by which I mean wear their team's uniform, not what you were thinking. Bernie Fine is gone. ; )

I enjoy reading u guys, but need clarification on how the 2012 class is shaking out.  Am I right to figure we're done with the exceptions of maybe Wood and Chandler qualifying and joining our group for 2012. If no more add ons to what we got, how do you think we stand. Accepting maybe we a front court player short, counting Branch can I figure we got a top 20 class coming in?

The 2012 recruits will not be ranked anywhere in the recruiting polls since their benchmark is top 100 high school grads from the class of 2012. Felix Balamou is the only recent HS grad in SJ's recruiting class and he is not ranked. While Branch, Sampson and Sanchez are all in the top 100 in terms of skill level, they do not count. The SJ recruits all filled voids that were an Achilles heel last year and if we sign a decent center, on paper, we would surely have a class worthy of being ranked around 20-25. If Chandler does qualify, our team will be in the top half of the Big East (top 6 or 7) and could crack the polls.
