Time to Move On-There's A Season to Play

The guy's gone, and there's nothing we can do about it. Everyone is acting like someone in the family died. So if we are all grieving, the only way to heal is to keep your mind busy on other things. So I will gladly assist that process by requesting that those with a keen insight on our Big East opposition give a scouting report on the teams they know best. Anyone with a good memory of last season and a CB magazine can help. Mainly, I am seeking opinions on who we match up with well, and who will give us major match up problems. Everyone seems to be focusing on what we have. Our success is all relative to who we face. Teams that go big and strong up front will create nightmare match-ups for us. So will teams with a quick, penetrating point, as our guards have good size but are not lightning quick. So, the floor is open for opinions. Our hopes for a NCAA bid are about how we compare to the other guy.

Amen Ray. Just as an FYI, according to the St. John's press guide, if we win tonight we will have 1775 all-time total victories.

This may be true, but teams will adopt the old, "stop Harrison and you stop St. John's approach." We'll see if anyone else steps up to the challenge.

i am just as upset as everyone else is about losing out on briscoe and the bleak future, but the truth is, we have a legitimate chance at having a great season this year. i am not going to let a winning season be spoiled by looking at next year. then again if we dissapoint im gonna be very upset

we have a legitimate chance at having a great season this year.

I disagree.

1) We have a dope/bimbo/fool for a coach

2) We have no depth in the front court

3) We have less options/talent than we did last season, and we didn't win enough then.

and do not rule out the possibility of some ridiculous drama. Lavin, Obekpa, and Jordan are ripe for some explosive nonsense.

So are you saying the "Unfinished Business Mantra" will likely be regurgitated next season?

Fortunately, no. Lavin will be bought out and a new coach will be here, and yes he'll struggle.
But there will be a different feeling. We wont feel like we're being sold a lemon.

I understand, but its not as if this is the 09-10 season where many on this board (myself included towards the end) were legitimately hoping we would lose games so that Norm would be gone. this team is far more talented than that one. I wont defend Lavin's coaching ability, and i admit that our front court depth or lack thereof is a major weakness, BUT...

we do have one of the most talented backcourts in the country, and the best shot blocker in the country. These guys have underachieved their entire college careers, and finally it feels like they have a sense of maturity where they are putting winning before everything else.

I honestly dont know what will happen this year. I know we are still very talented and i am trying to stay positive about THIS season. the guys on the team deserve that. as for lavin and the future, im not going to jump ship just yet.

I agree that the players - Dee, Dom, Phil, Branch etc deserve a good season, and there is some talent left here. I truly hope they succeed.

What kills me about these Boards, is people like you, who have to go call an individual a "dope/bimbo/fool". It is totally uncalled for, disagree with his strategy and tactics but who made you the expert? What do you do, and how would you be judged under such scrutiny? If you are not willing to say to his face, keep it to yourself or state it in another way.

I don't know you but hope you are better than that.

Man, by my clock the season starts in 2 hours and we are already looking for a new coach and complaining about next year.

It's a game of basketball ... enjoy.

Just like Knick fans are enjoying their season so far. More of the same Melo, what triangle? We don't have a thin frontcourt we have a weak frontcourt save CO so our backcourt strenght only evens things out for at best another mediocre season IMHO.
