Tim Brando on Fr. Harrington

I generally like the guy - but CBS's Tim Brando took to twitter with a pretty vicious attack on Fr Harrington tonight:

The Reverend from St. John's made a complete fool of himself. A colossal mistake. No integrity no compassion no regard for loyalty. A joke!

@TimBrando respectfully disagree. Big East today not close to being the same entity (size, feel, geographic) as in '80, '90' '00, or '10.

@zstubbs Boloney. The incredible need of Catholics to ridicule the successful and promote the have nots says it all. Gotta say what ya see.

The bar is pretty low for so called "pundits" in sports; so I generally could care less what they have to say.
But this is the most hypocritical bull $h*t I've heard in a long time. Georgetown and SJU have been the biggest supporters of the BE! For years we've been a constant yes vote for whatever Trangheese, Marinatto, Aresco etc said would make the league as a whole better.

How much longer were we supposed to sit back and watch the basketball side of the league get watered down?

Keep in mind Aresco comes from CBS, and is Brando's friend/ former boss.

I've seen more than a few posts regarding supposed Catholic bashing on this site, and pretty much every time I've thought the poster was way overreacting.

I actually see some bashing here, though. Weird over the top reaction by Brando.

Four of the seven schools exiting founded the Big East (Georgetown, SJU, Prvidence and Seton Hall), with Villanova joining one year after. In 1991, after only about 10 years in existence, the Big East added football schools to the league in order to keep the league intact after threats from the schools with big football programs. This move to revert to a core basketball league is 20 years in the making, and protects the interessts of these 5 schools, along with Marquette and DePaul. Moving forward, the new league can stop pandering to the interests of schools with football programs, and be able to build a top notch league with the single focus of providing an elite basketball conference.

I am all for FH's decision to be proactive than to sit around in a pile of ashes and wonder what the hell happened to the league. I wouldn't mind going back to the days where we play home and homes that established and enhanced the great rivalries that exist today. Along the way, if we get an opportunity to play some of the turncoats, I'd be up for that, but only if it is in the best interests of the league members.

I'm of the opinion that you act in your own best interests, and not in the worst interests of your enemies. That being said, in no way would I want to help out those who fled or were looking to flee the Big East to line their pockets with football cash, unless it was in our own best interests.

What is this idiot talking about "money grab"? No regard for loyalty? We've had about 10 schools leave this conference already, several in the last year. What does he expect schools that don't pay football to do? The basketball schools were the only loyal ones in this. The rest of them including founding member Syracuse ditched and left us all for dead.

"ridicule the successful and promote the have nots"??? Does this guy knows what he is saying? How are we ridiculing the successful by leaving a conference that is crapping on us? We should feel bad for "promoting the have nots" aka promoting ourselves and trying to survive on our own?

This douche has some nerve...

Tim Brando is the "JOKE". Just tweeting this ignorance shows his stupidity. He appears totally clueless regarding what has been happening over the past few years. I totally agree with MCNPA, this "douche" has some nerve, lol.
Additionally, as a Catholic, and a product of a wonderful Catholic education from elementary school though St Johns, I don't appreciate his bringing RELIGION into the conversation. It is all about Football schools and Non Football playing schools.

He couldnt possible have tweeted that. Some Uconn fan must be using his name. Nothing he is saying makes even a modicum of sense.

Brando's comments are absolutely insane and over the top. The Catholic bashing is uncalled for.
So he comes out of left field and throws grenades at the 7. Where was he with the other BE schools who left?
No comments about the schools going to the Big 10 or ACC. How about the coaches who include his pals who up and leave? Its OK for all of them to leave for additional money.
I am amazed at some of the reactions from Brando and Gottlieb for example. Uncalled for.
What the 7 did was finally stand up and protect their interests. We were headed to oblivion. The conference was a hodgepodge of teams from all over. The so called new BE contract would generate a lot less than expected.
So the 7 follow the rules that were set from day 1 and announce a departure. We try to protect our programs and schools from a business standpoint. Also we all have the same common goals and beliefs. We set out to form an all basketball conference. We had no other choice.
Did he want us to sit there and take what was happening? Or better yet start a Division 1 Football program ?
He's a moron.

It goes to show that not everyone can agree on any decision. If our move was going to piss off anyone in the college basketball world, I am perfectly fine with it being these two numb nuts. Every time I hear one of Gottlieb's rants on WFAN, I wonder how he keeps a job with that misdirected, uninformed BS. Brando clearly shows the depths of his ignorance with those tweets. And folks, that's just us calling it as we see it.

Inappropriate comments that were not thought through - the pitfall of the medium.

He'll pay for them.

I would respectfully request that the heading of this thread refer to the President of our University by his proper name. Unless Mr. Brando's tweet used this slang, in which case we are merely reporting, I see no need for this.

Thank you

That's what bothered you about this thread??
I apologize if you were offended because I put "Harry" in the title, but I think your outrage is misplaced in this case.
Far from insulting the man, my point was quite the opposite.

As a Catholic, did he feel the same about Notre Dame and Boston College??? Religion and education have no place in the discussion of college sports! TV sports executives exist because of these "money grabs". Effen pathetic leeches!

What are you guys talking about?!?

Brando's tweets are some of the nicest things said about Harrington that I've ever read on this board.

His tweets might be among the nicest, but his post on Father Harrington made him look like a classless and disrespectful person. My mother told me many years ago, "remember no one will ever know how smart or stupid you are until you open your mouth".

He's a southern boy who calls games on Raycom's ACC package. Very pro ACC. Very pro south.
Get lost! Your outrage is a joke and should have started years ago.
