Didn't just lose, got blown out even with player of the year Walter Berry and a 31-4 record going into the game. Another great NCAA T job by Lou after winning BE T over Syracuse On Ron Rowan's jumper and Walter's block of lay up attempt by Pearl Washington at the buzzer.

I remember that game quite well (in the 7th grade at the time). Auburn was confident and a bit cocky. I was pissed, and couldn't believe we were getting our arse handed to us. What made it worst was one of my brother's (who didn't have a collegiate team) kept laughing during Auburn's torching of the Johnnies.

Brutal game, they had a few pros and shot lights out. Hempil was the only guy who showed.
Terrible effort/

Lou's NCAA tournament record was not exactly stellar! I believe he had a losing record if I am not mistaken!

What's worse...we beat Louisville in the pre-season NIT...and they win the National Championship.

Typical

Why the need to bash Coach Carnesecca? I wish we were 17-20 in the NCAAs over the last 18 years! That means we played in 37 tourney games. I will gladly take another record like that compared to what we have endured during the past 18 years!

Exactly. Looie made the NCAAs all the time -- and on the rare occasions when he had a down year and made the NIT, he actually won it. He wasn't a great tourney coach, but he always got us there and when he had the players he made some noise.

The thing about Looie was he had a system -- always an excellent PG, a couple of good forwards who could score and rebound and he'd fill in the rest. Always excellent defense. Maybe we could have scored more points -- we played a lot of games in the 50s and 60s -- but he had a system that worked and he stuck with it.

Not complaining! Just stating the facts! Frankly I would take Lou in a heart beat based upon what we had to endure since his retirement!

Looie was smart enough to bring in a defensive specialist, Al LoBalbo to assist. The head coach doesn't have to do it all.
