Was out for drinks last night and chatting with a woman who used to hang at Elaine's. The conversation reminded me of another old Manhattan bar/restaurant popular with the Knicks, Rangers, Joe Willie, etc back in the mid-1970s. It was located at 323 East 79th St(between 1st and 2nd Aves)in the spot currently occupied by Quatorze restaurant. . Any old timers recall the name of the joint? It was not:
Jim McMullen's
Bachelor's 3(Joe Willie's place)
Maxwell Plum
Oren and Aretsky's

Thanks

funny I remember when the Upper East Side was the place to be now that is passe' and everyone wants to be in the lower east side or the East Village, go figure.Back then you wouldn't be caught dead in these places.

I cannot remember the spot you are thinking of, but I remember going to Flannery's, the Mad Hatter, and a bunch of other places in the E. 70's.

Know those places and many more. My first job out of college in the early 80s was in real estate. Our office was located on 61st and 1st. Great time to be young and on the UES. Ran in to Rod Gilbert at a St. Jude benefit at Oniells(Maspeth) about a month ago. I asked him if he remembered the place. He must have named 20 other places, but didn't remember the one on 79. I'm starting to think it was just a figment of my imagination. LOL. Rod, one of my childhood sports heroes, is one hell of a nice Andy down to earth guy.

Always liked Rod seemed so much classier than some of the other professional athletes at that time.

Remember Rusty Staub had a place too.

I remember Dorian's something or other and they let underage kids from UES Catholic schools get in.

79 but not mid block right, probably nearer to an Ave?

Not Mr. Laff's, Gleason's, Hudson Bay Inn

I think I meant Flanagan's not Flannery's, haha.

Dorrians Red Hand, in the 80/s on 2nd, is where Robert Chambers was with Jennifer Levin before he killed her in the park. It's still around apparently.

I knew u meant Flanagans. One of the few old places still open. Adams Apple, Whos on First, Fridays, Maxwells Plum, etc..Up until graduation this past June, my daughter was one of those underage UES catholic school girls. Of course she has never set foot inside a bar. lol. The place Im thinking of was mid-block between 1st and 2nd, on north side of street. FWIW, Rod was very fond of Mr. Laffs. Also he told me and my buddy a few good off colored stories about him and broadway Joe. Very entertaining.

Restaurant on West 72nd where Patrick used to hang, http://wiww.sugarbarnyc.com/

Id used to sometimes see Patrick at Wilsons on 79th and Amsterdam

Not the 70's but in 80's the go to place for me was polo grounds on third ( 83rd st). I really miss these old time type of sports bars.

in the early 90's the place to go for us on the upper east side was called the Ski Bar. They had this ice slide that they poured shots down
