The Loyola (of Chicago) Project / 1963 National Champions

Thanks for the posting, JSJ. My first game at then-Alumni Hall, which at the time was an impressive two-year-old facility, was against Loyola, Led by consensus AA (and Knicks draft choice) Jerry Harkness, the Ramblers, on their way to the national title, just crushed Joe Lapchick's only losing team (9-15).

I remember we upset them the following year on superstar Billy Lawrence's two free throws. He led the team in scoring...but flunked out following the game, never to play again.

For months on end. the buzz on campus was "Billy Lawrence is coming back." Alas, as you pointed out, he never did.
