The Great Bob Sheppard

Bob, for those not aware, was a St. John's grad and long time Speech Professor

He was also a member of Skull and Circle, the most prestigious academic society within St. John's College

Bob is also a member of the St. John's Athletic hall of Fame

He was the QB on the football team

More on Bob:

I have related this here before but bears repeating. I had an engineer who worked for me out of college who ABSOLUTELY lived and breathed Yankee baseball. He (or his wife, embarrassed to admit I forget), wrote Mr. Shepard and asked if he would attend the wedding and introduce the wedding party. He replied he could not but if they sent him the info, phonetically pronouncing the names, he would record it and send it to them. Just an incredible gesture.

Professor Sheppard was my Public Speaking 1 Professor. One of his mantras for the class was “We must work to speak phonetically correct”. Still a challenge for me given my Brooklyn parents and growing up in Queens. Good Lord he tried. 🙂
I believe Sheppard lived in Richmond Hill, Queens. No excuses. :)

He taught at John Adams high school in Ozone Park and was born in Richmond Hill, which shares a border with Ozone Park. My older siblings had him for speech there.
