The Best College Basketball Uniforms of All Time (The Athletic)

Couldn't access either but saw Mike Cragg post

Coming in at No. 15 - ⁦⁦
@StJohnsBBall
⁩ (1994-95) “featured a glorious faded-out color palette and a NYC skyline silhouette rising from the bottom of the shorts, the tallest of which stretched all the way up the left side of the jersey.

I never noticed the one building going all the way up the side into the jersey. The yellow killed it for me. Oh, yeah, and the unicorn. Ughh..

I think we should bring those back as “throwbacks” now that we are back with Nike.

I think we should bring back the guy in that uniform

We got those uniforms for Felipe's freshman season at a time when the hype surrounding the program was off the charts.
And then they played the games....

I like to see an updated version of those uniforms this year (a deeper red and less yellow).

I think Brian Mahoney was a good Assistant and confidant to Lou all those Years . As was Ron Rutledge . Yet , with Felipe and Zendon coming in as McD All Americans , one would think he would have Coached the team to better results ... I’m sure some will say Felipe and Zendon and Tarik didn’t live up to their HS Rankings but , Felipe and Zendon were good enough to play in the NBA . Fran didn’t get a lot more out of them in the 1 year he Coached them but , those were the Years that G’Town had Allen Iverson .

I think those look a little dated to me, but that's just me.

I do like when we roll out the dark gray uniforms and also the dark blue on occasion. I'm not sure under what circumstances we've used them, but I like them.

As much as I like Tarik as a person, commentator and representative of St John's, I believe that a more effective point guard would have made a world of difference during the Felipe-Zendon years.

Agree they’re dated, but they could be redone even better. Still love the skyline idea and if done right could be fantastic.

I remember at the time when Felipe committed to SJU a local Catholic HS coach told me his opinionwas that Felipe wasn't the player we expected. We really expected Felipe to be a Jordanesque type of force, a guys who may eaisly be the number 1 pick in the NBA draft, a guys heads and tails above the other stars in college basketball. The expectations were just too high, and in a lot of ways, too much to put on a kid who began playing basketball at 13 or 14.

Zendon was a local LI kid of course. A friend of mine who is close to the 114 guys, and a basketball junkie, saw him play a lot at Sewanhaka.. His impression back then was that it was hard to know what he was capable of since most of his HS games were against 6'2 centers. Zendon could bring the ball up, shoot from 25, crush competition inside at his size and agility. All of those physical skills led everyone to believe he would be a dominant college player. Unfortunately, he sometimes played like he was 6'2, putting the ball on the floor too much, holding the ball low instead of protecting it high, etc.

Still, both were two very good college players, just not the lottery pick guys we thought they'd be. When expectations are so lofty, even making the NBA can seem like a disappointment unless they were both stars there.

We had some gray ones that had a skyline scheme on the shorts that I really liked and would love to see brought back. I would also like to see the dark blue on occasion.

I remember those, they came about when we first moved onto Under Armour. They were even on display in the lobby of Carnesecca Arena. Did we ever actually wear those in games?

I seem to remember that we did.

We were an adidas school under Mahoney.

Always thought those teams desperately needed a point guard team leader. Great players make their teammates better.

If Kareem Reid is here instead of Tarik, Felipe and Zendon win 100+ games.
