Nothing new here, but another national outlet talking about this as the make-or-break year for Chris Mullin. From a discussion between Brian Hamilton and Dana O'Neil...

Speaking of ex-players turned coaches … Chris Mullin. Now or never, right? I mean now that Mustapha Heron is eligible.
BRIAN: To me this is a huge test of the school’s patience and loyalty basically to the guy who is synonymous with St. John’s basketball. I would not want to try to scheme against a backcourt of Shamorie Ponds and Mustapha Heron. That sounds extremely unpleasant. But that aside…man, if you can’t make a dent in the Big East this year, I don’t know what to tell you.
I don’t think the teams are bad. I just think it’s impossible to look at Villanova the same way or Xavier the same way, and while Marquette and Providence are promising, nothing is guaranteed there either. If St. John’s can’t ride guards like this to the top half of the Big East, when will it ever make noise?
DANA: Absolutely 100 percent agree. The Red Storm have caught the league in a transition year and have all of the pieces to win it. I mean, it’s hard to say it’s not Villanova’s year until it’s not Villanova’s year, but I went to their Hoops Mania and even I was taken aback when I realized how young the Wildcats are.
Plus, St. John’s hired a new athletic director — Mike Cragg from Duke — which makes it even easier for a change, if necessary. A chance to put his stamp on things and not to mention, maybe lure someone with some Blue Devil strings. Gotta win this year for Mullin, no matter how awkward the divorce might be.

yep, this will indee be a big year for Coach Mullin ....... either big success, or big disappointment, but a big defining year.

Let’s hope.

They could have cut and pasted comments from redmen for these blurbs. Cragg was a critical hire as noted if changes need to be made. Tommy Amaker would be #1 on his list if Mully doesn't dance with the talent he has this year.

Amaker a good choice actually. He’s a great recruiter and much more experienced after his first go-round. Mullin has a chance to do big things here though at this point. Gotta really build something now. This is a big year.

Tommy was only 31 when he took the Seton Hall job. Has a ton of experience and connections. That said, he is not media friendly and that is a negative in the media capital of the world.

He is however, very good at lying to players.
