The 7 Line Beef

As I assume most of you are Mets fans too, have you heard of T7L and their recent run in with someone at a Mets game they accused of bootlegging their shirt? Basically what happened was T7L released an idea for a new shirt but didn't print them yet. They were at a game recently and saw a guy with his girlfriend who was wearing the design on his shirt. T7L confronted him, heckled him, posted his picture online and offered a $200 reward for his private information. I think that's ridiculous. T7L started as a humble for the fans straight from the neighborhood type brand and now that they tasted a bit of fame they have become a bunch of snobby divas, acting like douches. I have to think this incident will negatively affect customer retention and acquisition. If you read their facebook page they seriously think they are Gucci or something. It's a shame since I'm a fellow Mets fan, but they are a bunch of punks.

The guy claimed a friend gave it to him so he didn't steal a thing if he's telling the truth.

The first comment under the story pretty much sums it up in my mind-

Darren uses Mets player's names without the permission of the Mets or the player for his own profit and then complains because someone uses his non-patented design on a couple of lousy shirts to wear to a game.
Does anyone else see the irony in this?

No, I'm agreeing with you mostly. I find a problem with what both of them are doing. They (the 7 Line) are essentially making money off the Mets' brand and trademarks, without paying for the license from MLB or the Mets.

Think about it? The Mets invest millions every year to make their brand worth something, to make a stupid script "Mets" in orange a valuable commodity. And yet these guys make money by making t-shirts that come as close as possible to copying that, without technically writing "Mets", as they can. That's a sleazy business practice.

And if the other guy, or his "friend" copied them... well the 7 Line still has a sleazy business practice, but I can't exactly applaud somebody for copying them either. Like Moose points out, they're complaining about someone doing to them what they in turn do to the Mets.

Did I read it right that they sell his shirts in the stadium? Or is it in a store near the stadium. I saw them at McFadden's yesterday. Never heard of it before that. At first I thought it was just McFadden's selling shirts. Couple tatt'ed up guys working the table. Don't think anyone bought a shirt during the hour I was there.

I don't really know, I doubt the Mets would be selling them for him. It eats away at their mercy. He probably got buddy buddy with McFaddens people who let him sell them there. Bald Vinny sells his Yankee off shoot shirts right outside of Billy's Sports Bar across from the Stadium. Same deal I'm thinking.

What's funny is people are out there in the real world fighting for their lives while this jerk is whining about his crappy t shirt company. Pathetic

Agree with what you all said especially Moose. This guy is a huge hypocrite and he can't even see it. He cries over getting the likeness of his designs stolen, yet he makes a living off of using the likeness of Mets logos, color schemes, fonts, popular movies, etc. Nothing he does is original. How hard is it to think up a shirt like "I Miss Shea" or "Sell The Team"? By the way those are actual shirts. I know people in sports forums who could run rings around that idiot with wit. Hell, probably on this forum we could have wittier ideas. The way he carries himself in his blog is so trashy, so cocky, like he's this established celebrity already. He is trying to be the Mets version of Fireman Ed. He thinks he's above everyone. The second some players bought a few shirts it all went RIGHT to his head. He thinks he's one of the boys in the Mets clubhouse now it's so ridiculous. The company has certainly grown but he is still a small time nobody printing shirts out of some little building. He needs a reality check. If I was with a girl at a Mets game and I had some stringbean armed guy come up to me claiming I stole his T shirt idea, heckling and interrupting us, I'd have no choice but to get in his face. Just read the way this kid writes...it's pathetic.

Isn't McFaddens on Citifield property? I would assume the Mets could tell McFaddens to stop him selling there if they had a problem.

I wouldn't know. I guess it is. But McFadden's rents it and McFaddens sells their own shirts and stuff in there, no? Might be tough to argue but I', not a lawyer.

This guys actions are not excusable and as a Mets fan I dont like the association with people this classless. The thing that gets me is that his actions(asking people to scope out the couple, having his girlfriends question them, interrogating them wildly) are all so trivial and sad, but we all make mistakes in the heat of the moment, but after having time to cool down and reflect he still ends up writing all that garbage!

Yes...very true. He just doesn't even admit he went overboard. He is the kind of guy who is becoming easier to hate than respect.

Figured I'd bump this. Maybe the Mets read our site ;)

Heard on Boomer and Carton this morning that the Mets kicked them out of McFaddens.

Good to hear maybe this will teach them how to run a business in a professional manner and not like some 6 year olds who got their lemonade stand cut off by another outfit down the block.

Opps, my bad. Hopefully this teaches them a lesson on how to run a business.

I can't stand these guys. They post pictures everyday of people wearing their shirts at the game on TV and players wearing them...ok we get it...you guys have become popular. They are begging for attention. Good for the Mets kicking them out. They steal their brand all the time.
