The below linked reticle lists 15 Players who are potential NBA draft picks including Julian Champagnie .

Julian Champagnie – St. John’s – Sophomore
Red Storm fans would have rather seen Champagnie flanked by L.J. Figueroa though a surprise transfer from Figueroa to Oregon means Champagnie will assume the role as Mike Anderson’s top returning scorer alongside point guard Rasheem Dunn. The 6’7” Champagnie rebounds exceptionally well (6.5 RPG) and his length disrupts passing lanes (1.2 SPG) enough to make him a key cog defensively. A refined shot (a non-threatening 32% from 3-point range) will draw the interest of scouts in seasons to come.

As much as I hate to say this, if Julian has an outstanding sophomore campaign and he could be drafted in the top 2/3 of the draft (up to early mid 2nd round), I'd advise him to go. It's often been said that Felipe's stock actually sunk after a poor senior season that exposed warts, and that he would have been close to a lottery pick after freshman season.

As early as February, people who know inside the AD told me that JC had the most upside of any roster player (including LJF) with the best shot of an NBA future. Long way to go to get there though. NBA talk at present is premature.

The NBA drafts on potential, and clearly they see potential in JC. Having said that, what position(s) will he play? I remember listening to Donny Marshall during a game last year when the screen showed JC at 6'8". Marshall, who is 6'7", made a comment(I'm paraphrasing) "if he's 6'8" then I've grown a few inches, because i just saw JC and I'm definitely taller then him". At 6'8" I get it, at 6"6" Im not so sure. But then again, the NBA scouts know way more then I do.

It is amazing that a kid who was overlooked and was still available to colleges so late in the process last year is now being considered as a potential NBA pick just one year into his college career.

It is a testament to Julian's work ethic as well as CMA and his staff's ability to develop talent that he is in that enviable position today. Good for you, Julian. Can't wait to see you continue to further hone your skills this season.

A remarkable rise. This time last year, we wondered if he was good enough to play Big East basketball. Of course, I wish him the best. Just hope Julian stays focused. We have all seen NBA speculation get the best of some kids.

The scouting report did say "in seasons to come" so not sure they meant he is draftable after this season.

I am not surprised by jC rise. It has long been known that some big men do not develop until after HS. Credit the staff that they were willing to chance JC

Felipe it seems would have been a lottery pick out of HS or after his freshman season. But as I recall, it was his sophomore and junior seasons where his status began to drop significantly, and that his excellent senior season is when Felipe catapulted back onto NBA draft boards and eventually into the first round. The second half of Felipe's senior year he was playing as well as any scoring guard/wing in the Big East if not the country.

Absent other factors (i.e. a kid wants to be a professional and doesn't want to be in college anymore), I don't think a kid with legit pro prospect status should ever leave before their junior or even senior year if they are no better than a potential mid second round pick. If a solid freshman and sophomore season gets you on the radar of the NBA, you stand to benefit by a strong junior season to catapult yourself into the first round, which is where you want to be because of the contractual guarantees. Of course if it is a Harkless situation it seems like a no-brainer. Of course all depends on the individual. Hopefully JC continues to progress but I see him as a 4-year kid or at minimum a 3-year player.
