Thanksgiving, Christmas and Year-round charity

To all my redmen.com fellows and friends. Whatever faith we are, we are called to support the poor and needy at all times, but especially this time of year.

If you are able, please try to save and give a little extra to your parish or your favorite charity to help others. It is especially needed this year with so many out of work with the virus out of control.

Please help and God bless you all this holiday season.

Rich[/quote] great post. The place we donate too need has increased dramatically. It’s going to be a long winter with Covid so people need help especially the next 6 months and the holidays a great way to start right now

Rich, when I read a great post like yours, it's a reminder that many of us who get so riled up over politics have very similar ideals. Thank you. Happy Thanksgiving.

My parish sponsors two poorer parishes in wyandanch and uniondale for the holidays.

Thanks very much for this Rich. My wife and I are very fortunate to be retired with pension, social security, and health benefits. On days when I am out, I see long lines of people in front of Churches waiting to get food and other necessary items. At first, I thought that this was only happening in minority neighborhoods. However, when I spoke with the Principal of the Middle school my granddaughter attended in Fresh Meadows, he informed me that once the school closed in March, they served over 1,500 meals a day to the community.

There is a segment of our country that are being hit very hard by the Pandemic and are struggling to survive. Whatever we can do to assist those in need should be done.

As for myself, there is a young woman in my community who has back to school and holiday drives each year. She is a Supervisor with MTA, but is very involved with the South Jamaica Community. Friday morning after I dropped my granddaughter at school, I met her and gave her a donation for her Thanksgiving drive. Christmas is coming soon and I will give again.

I am fortunate that my education at St Johns put me in a position to get a good job and fulfilling career. To be able to give back to my community is a Blessing.

Although not the purpose, giving does as much for the giver as the recipient. Yes, we are blessed, and may God continue to bless you and your family.

Not to contradict you at all Beast but numerous studies have shown that people who do for others are the happiest and benefit more, obviously in a different way, than the recipient.
Proud to be part of such a wonderful fraternity.

No disagreement. Same concept. Happy Thanksgiving my friend.

To add to that, when people are helped by people they feel cared for and appreciate the generosity of others. When they are helped by governments they sometimes feel it is not enough and they are entitled to more.

All great thoughts for the season to remember those who are not as fortunate particularly this year when the food distribution lines are unlike anything I have seen in my life. If you are in need of an organization that could benefit from your help, I would suggest one of our own. St. John's Bread and Life which is located where the University started and has been serving the Neighborhood for almost 40 years, providing a significant number of meals per day and also pantry bags and a medical clinic.
 
I can’t echo this sentiment enough. I have really committed myself to helping others as I have had some tough times and have been so fortunate to have had the help of others. Even if you can only give a little whether that is in time or money it will have an impact. Being considerate to others is a great first step.
