Thank You Redmen.com

If you know me and what I usually post on this board it is extremely rare that I ever call anyone out individually, aside from agreeing with a post that is basketball related. However recently some Redmen.com folks have stepped up in ways that deserve some recognition. A few weeks ago I started a thread about a buddy/co-SJU alum, and mega St. John's fan, who is fighting an aggressive form of leukemia. Since that time, thanks to the efforts of some folks on this board, my buddy has been visited by coach Masur, members of the athletic department, received a call from coach Anderson just to name a few things. In addition several members contributed to help pay for an awesome custom St. John's logo birthday cake (which he unfortunately had to spend in the hospital) and another member arranged for a get well video message that was delivered to him from Evan Engram of the NY Giants. So I wanted to take this opportunity to thank not just those who helped with these gestures but all of you for your words, thoughts and prayers. He's in the biggest fight he's ever had but don't think for one minute he also isn't concerned with when the season will start and who will round out our non-conference schedule. But I want to give a specific shout out to the following:

MattC (thanks for what you did with the NY Giants)
MJmaherjr (thanks for making the cake happen)
WeathermanNYC & Monte (the cake doesn't get to him without the two of you)
Olv72, Jerpac00, Monte (contributing and being there with him on his birthday)

There are others who I want to name but I don't know their Redmen.com handles. Below is a photo of us visiting him on his birthday with the St. John's cake.

Thanks for sharing this story. Sorry to hear of your friend’s health battles. He and his family will be in my prayers. Kudos to all the Redmen.comers who came through for you and your friend. We have fun on this board. We criticize, we ridicule, we joke, we argue. But then something like this comes along and reminds us of what’s most important.

NYCRedmen, God bless you and your buddy and I hope he is feeling better. Those photos are inspiring. I am a relative newbie to redmen.com.but to to see the love and friendship that goes on here is truly inspiring. What a great bunch of guys! Your friend is lucky to have a friend like you.

Great job guys! That cake is amazing...looks like it could've been made on cake boss! Best wishes to him and hopeful for a full recovery.

He was on the tv show “ America’s next great baker “ we have a mutual friend which is how I knew to go to him. He’s a freaking baking genius and has done cakes for a lot of famous people. He’s on Long Island so if you ever looking to do an off the hook cake that tastes good too let me know. On a whim Wendell and I had already gone over an idea for the cake but I asked him to add the NYC skyline if he could and he absolutely nailed it

I don't know his name or who he is, but remember him being around the pep band every game at MSG, talking with the then director, and always being a generally happy and friendly person.

Hoping for a full recovery. The world needs more smiles like his.

I am sorry I missed your original post about helping etc. I have not been on the site much lately as I have been dealing with my own family issues. I hope your friend is feeling ok and wins his battle. Great job guys stepping up.

I don't know him, but I know nearly all of you who have stepped in to help him by organizing, donating, and visiting him - all of you are really terrific guys who have done a stand up thing. Wendell, please let us know what the rest of us can do to help

Thank you for everything you've done Wendell, and for the acknowledgement. You are an incredible human being. Wish I could do more. Continued prayers and support.

Been meaning to post an update to my buddy's (I mean our buddy) condition but the last week has been crazy. That being said, last week he WAS DISCHARGED from Memorial Sloan Kettering. Not even sure how to follow up that sentence because it was so great to hear. He still has several battles ahead including trying to find a match for a bone marrow donor, but we will take everything one step at a time. Thanks again for everything, from well wishes, to calls, to visits, to the positive vibes that were put out, believe me he knows about everything and is beyond appreciative (well except for the Mets bullpen, that still gets his stomach turning lol). We Are...
