Tavon Sledge

Absolutely no surprise. I knew he would transfer the day he committed.

I wouldn't be too surprised if Achraf Yacoubou transfers from Nova.

If only there was a local school that could use a jet of a PG to complement its starter.

If the assistant gets the gig at Wagner, I could see him there. Unless of course he holds the whole staff responsible for burying him.

That said, I think he can play at the major level, especially with a year off to work on his game.

Not sure he wants to be a jet-quick complementary piece, though.

I recall that there were people on this board who loved him, but that our staff didn't show that much interest. Is that right?

Tavon was a very athletic point guard who could get away with that in high school. He could not shoot and was a poor defender. You can't play HIGH MAJOR if you are only 5'9" and can't shoot. you are not getting to the rim against big men, period. Tavon would be best served by transferring to a Mid Major where he can be effective and spending the next year developing his shot.

Very good assessment of his game.

I don't think SJU has any need for a kid like Sledge at this point. We are recruiting different types of kids than Sledge. We have a top 50 kid in Branch as well as Greene and will be aiming for a different level of player down the road as well. I too think he's best suited for a mid major program at this point and that's not a bad think like maybe it used to be. Mid major programs are now gaining steam and having more of an impact on D1 ball overall.

5'9" is almost impossible in the Big East. Forget about offense but the defense part brings about so many problems. We said no to him the last time around , so that's the story with Tavon.

On the other hand, it looks like we are interested in a similarly sized kid but I think that's two years away so he'll probably grow, I hope.

Jackson-Cartwright probably will grow a couple more inches or so, but he has a different game than Sledge. There are always some kids out there who can play in major conferences, regardless of their size. I have a good feeling Jackson-Cartwright will be one of 'em (even, if he doesn't grow much).

What about the kid Carr that committed to SHU.. 2013. Think he is 5'6. Top 50 kid.

Is his nickname Crime Stopper ??

Yes

Supposedly crime in Baltimore stops when he plays :fight:

Is that really the genesis of his nickname ? If it is that's just too f'ing funny. If not you get credit for something totally hilarious
