Tareq Coburn - physician assistant canidate

Well said..  Tons of respect for him testing his limits

Curious to see how he performs againt some of the better non-conf teams early on.

Wouldn't be surprised if he has to miss some away games during BE season that might require two days away that conflict with class schedule.

If anything will cut down on some of the concerns about finding minutes at 1-3 for several guys.

regardless of what he does for us on the court much respect to him for what he's doing this year

Good for this kid! As I suspected it seems he’s in the “pre-P.A. School” portion of his undergrad work which makes it more manageable.  He wouldn’t have been able to do it if directly enrolled in the PA program first didactic year.  It would be wonderful to have a bank player like this kid have a great year and also finish with a degree as a PA.  Will be pulling for him.

Yes, wow!  Impressive young man with a great future.  It is terrific that we get to see and watch him play for us this year.

Count me as a member of the Tareq Coburn Fan Club.

Tareq Is a winner on and off of the basketball court.  His Mom should be very proud.

I am so proud that this young man , a true scholar  athlete in the most possible sense is a part of our team. It is also very heartwarming to see how CMA is making accommodations for this young man and how much his teammates appear to appreciate him. There are just so many likeable kids on this years roster. Hoping for success for all both on and off the court.

He is a graduate student in his first year of a 2 year PA program, not undergrad “pre-PA”.

I liked this kid as a contributor on the court the moment we signed him. Long, can really shoot it from three and from the line (over 80% last 2 years) and should be able to defend a few positions. But after reading this story, I really admire this kid for the academic challenge he's chosen to take on. He is already my one of my favorite Johnnies on this year's team.

Marcus, I've been messaging him. I told him there a few PA's from the school that are avid  ST. John's basketball fans. He said that the PA students and the program have been very supportive of him. Based on the PA program's IG acct, it seems like the students were actually going to the games before covid hit.

Nice story, seems like the NYP is our student newspaper, lots of good ink almost daily even before real games start.

PA program is rigorous, kudos to an outstanding student, and athlete. He and his mom should be proud.

Sounds like he wants to end up in Med School (wish we had one), because he mentions being a surgeon.

Not clear because they mention midterm exams which the P.A. Program doesn’t even have. The school is also off campus and there aren’t spectated classes like the article says.  Either way I wish him the best with it.  Great to see a player finish the PA program.

I remember seeing him play for Cardozo what seems like many years ago now. He had talent back then. I love that we have a true Queens kid on the roster. The fact that he is such a strong student is incredible. It is not easy being a Division 1 basketball player and excelling in the classroom at this level. Like many have already said his family should and must be very proud of him. I think everyone will be rooting for him.

Having two fifth year players in Coburn and Smith will help with the integration of so many new players. Excited for the season to start.

1 5th year senior

I was in the ER with a relative (apparently suffering from vertigo) and the PA had a St. John's ID on.  I guess he was doing his clinical rotation.  Chatted briefly and he mentioned how amazing it is that Coburn is trying to do both.
