Talk of a Former Johnnie Coaching in NY

Wasn't he reported to be somewhat of a religious fanatic?

We should have hired Mark instead of Mullin, at least he had Head Coaching experience.
Maybe ... but would we all be forced to listen to his wife sing -- er, make that "screech" -- the Anthem at every home game?
At this point I would welcome 2 minutes of fingernails scratching a chalk board before every home game if it meant a winning program again.

He is an ordained minister at I believe a Pentecostal church. As far as I know the only NBA head coach who was also a minister. He's done street corner preaching and was mocked for that but I would not call him a fanatic for that. Not for me but there is a long tradition of street preaching in some sects and the Pentecostal churches are the only Protestant sects that have had significant growth in the past 100 years worldwide. Most have declined.

Especially in Central and South America! I have been to their services. You can't nap like at Catholic mass that's for sure!

"He also reportedly refused to make upgrades to his coaching staff."

Gee that sounds familiar.

Got to admit that I kind of cringed at that.

Mark Jackson is a Redmen Legend and much revered in our St John’s fandom community . He represents the greatness our Program has in a earlier Era . After Berry and Mullin left in 85 and 86, Mark was the Man for Louie as a Senior . Going on to be NBA Rookie of the Year -
and playing for Pitino and theKnicks . Not to diminish Lou but, Mark was a much better player than Mike Moses , even as a Freshman and Soph . Lou played Moses out of loyalty for coming here from Florida as a Transfer , I believe . Mark would have been a much better option running the Point in the 85 Semi Finals than Moses . Louie didn’t seem to get that . Too bad , he didn’t . .

Lou Carnesecca was never good with change. Neither were his players and protégé Brian Mahoney. Let's hope Mullin shakes that trait sooner rather than later.

I've been both a die-hard Knick and Johnnie fan since roughly 1964 or 1965. Not sure which qualifies as more long-suffering. While Knicks have two championships, they've probably also had more years of hopelessness in that period. I'd love to see Jackson as Knick coach; he'd bring some much needed life and energy to a franchise with none for too long. Plus what is according to his detractors his biggest fault, inability to get along with upper management, would be completely understandable with Knicks - who in their right mind could get along with Dolan?

I am clueless about the details of our recruiting efforts.
But from what I read on this Board about Ewing's efforts and the Hall's recent success, and getting little to no word from 'Staff', or much from beat writers, I am becoming alarmed.

For some it is just Grass is always Greener but frankly I'm alarmed that we are not all over multiple big men grad transfers and like last year, the only thing we've heard is about more guards.

If we were targeting high schoolers, then you should panic.

But a lot of the grad transfer market occurs in the shadows. You are better off just assuming Matt has done most of the work already and is just dotting the I's and crossing the T's. But yeah, we're in trouble if we aren't at that point now or at it soon.
