Take a deep breath - this is getting interesting

Ok, guys 6-6 in conference doesn't get you anything. The season going forward will be decided on where the team is going, and not where they've been, but:

These kids have now in relatively short order, come back from the dead to even their record. At 0-5, the season seemed so hopelessly lost. Many teams, some with professional players, throw in the towel, and fold. What these kids and the coaches have done is nothing short of remarkable. They didn't lose faith in themselves, and slowly have crawled out of a big hole.

Like I said, .500 doesn't get you anywhere but the NIT, but for these kids, it suddenly puts us in the NCAA discussion if they can keep it going and finish strong. A very improbably season may be unfolding. Now is the moment to get behind them if you haven't already.

For those short on history, note that UCONN regrouped after Hardy torched Kemba three years ago, went on a tear and won the NCAA tournament. Sure that's highly unlikely for us, but it was also unlikely for UCONN. Who thought though, that any notion comparing us to the 2011 NCAA champs would be anything but laughable after 0-5.

Hopefully everyone will be doing everything possible to go ( and bring friends ) to the Georgetown game

Hell I'm having my fiancee take the train to the airport because I don't want to miss the game

edit** On further thought maybe I'll get her car service as a valentines gift to smooth that over **

You don't get a night off in the Big East. At least not if you are SJU. Almost every game has, and will, go down to the end game. We are doing that better, and also playing harder for longer stretches. Tonight, not as much, but a letdown after Sunday was understandable. The hole was dug, and it requires both effort and some luck to dig out of it. The odds are against us, but this team has guts. And as Gunnery Sergeant Hartman may have said: "This team is silly and sometimes makes stupid mistakes, but they got guts. Guts is enough". Not many here called this. I know it caught me by surprise. Long way from being a salvaged season, but at least they are still in the hunt. As 1 poster said, the exciting part about starting 0 and 5 is that every game becomes a must win game.

(Should be) easy wins - DePaul, Butler

Toss Ups - Gtown, Xavier, @Marquette

Probable loss but would be great win - @Nova

Will be interesting rest of the season

I think Harrison in particular is snake bit against G'Town. We exercised a couple of ghosts with the road wins against SHU and Providence. Time for Harrison to have a big game against G'town and for this core to finally get a win against them.

They manage to be physical with Harrison, without fouling him. I think that's everybody's book on defending him, but Georgetown executes it better then anyone (Dlo normally does a great job in creating the contact, as well).

Take a deep breath is right. This team has no margin for error. Seton Hall...with the help of the refs...wanted it more. We were a missed three point shot away from the NIT.

We won.

Posts like this makes me wonder if some folks wanna see the team win.

Get real...why would anyone hope we make the NIT rather than the NCAA?

More like you "get real!"

All I know is that we absolutely could not afford to lose this game tonight. It wasn't pretty but the guys hung in there which sets up a massive game on Sunday. Still plenty of games left but I'd consider that Gtown tilt an eliminator. Hopefully we end their season and propel ourselves up the BE ladder.

Why are you so negative?
This team is on an unbelievable run after a really bad start. Besides me and a few other delusional homers who would have thought 6-6 possible after starting 0-5 with two games against Creighton and 4/6 on the road? No win in this Big East is easy...sweeps are even more difficult...doing both on the road? That's nothing to sneeze at. SH just beat Xavier by double-digits in Cincy, and, at the very least, has size, a very solid player in Gibbs, a rangy shooter in Mobley, and an all-conference player in Edwin. This was a trap game sandwiched between two big-time teams, in front of a handful of fans, and against a team that purposely tried to make it ugly.

We are 16-9 with four remaining home games left! We can hit 20 wins by just taking care of business at home, and that leaves two road games (one against a team we dismantled) and the BET to pad that total. We were also aided tonight by BYU losing its tenth game. They have 2/4 on the road to end the season and Gonzaga at home. An 11th loss will all but end their chances out of the WCC.

Actually, as we are all aware, we have room for just one more regular season loss. We know that to take it at home vs. Georgetown or Butler would be devastating.. We have 4 home, 2 away. Conventional wisdom says you'd like to have not lost a game going into the Villanova game. Even then, should we win two at home, then lose at Villanova, we'd in effect have to win our last road game at Marquette to secure 11 wins, assuming we win out at home. It is still a very tough road, but finally we can seriously look at the schedule and say we have a real chance to do this.

The two road games have me most worried, especially Marquette. Obviously, we need to win one of those road games to stay alive and also win the rest of the home games.

Yikes, not an easy path by any means.

They go 4-2, then they need to get to Saturday night in the BET.

Seriously, why would you think any game would be easy? Butler has played most of their games very tough and DePaul has some very talented players; we certainly proved last night that we are still capable of playing lousy ball for a long stretch. I disagree with the idea that we were due for a letdown because we beat Creighton. Having said that, we found a way to win and that is a real positive and cures a lot. IMO, we could go 0-6 or 6-0 and anything in-between. I do know the next game will be real interesting. Beyond that, who knows? I thought we were poised for a nice NCAA run Lavin's first year and then Kennedy went down and boom, so did our chances.

Amen to that, A Win is a WIn. No one dissects by how much we won by or how poorly we played.
Whew! Hope we win Sunday! As a season ticket holder, I hope all of us show up to support SJU!
