Syracuse

Ad campaign or not you have to go back to 1998 to count up our last 7 NCAA appearances.
While since 1998 they have made 18 apperances.

I'm all for throwing rocks but its not here.
Yeah, I hate Syracuse (and JB even more) as much as anyone, but we're not in any position (yet) to be critical of any program, given our past 2.5 decades of work.

All I'm saying is when they were in the BE they were a team that the networks want on the air. They are now 4 or 5th fiddle in the ACC.

Can't tell me that they didn't take a hit when they prioritized FB for the cash.

Same Thing with a lot of the other FB schools.

Sorry to get off-topic....

If Boeheim and CMA are talking academics to the parents, let's bring up Boeheim's graduation rate for his African-American athletes of 0.0%...that's where it was, don't know if he's moved the needle in the last decade. A disgrace. CMA graduates his kids, opens more doors in life.

In this day and age where few kids stay at one school for 4 years, how important is the "graduation rate" of a HC? Not saying it is or isn't , I really have no clue, just throwing the question out there

Agree, Monte....I would think graduation rate is useless nowadays. Team GPA seems like it would be a better measure of how a program is supporting its student-athletes.

Most of these kids are more concerned w playing In the pros then they r w academics.
That's the trap! CMA kids are better prepared for life, call it higher GPA or higher graduation rate. If Mom or Grandma is an important decision maker, that will resonate.

I'm just saying if I'm sending my child to a university, and the head coach is responsible for my son...my son having 0% chance of a degree v a 90% chance of degree, that might resonate with some parents.

I'm completely confused(it don't take much) but seems like the conversation is on topic. No doubt in my mind that CMA is much more engaged with kids and their families. JB has all seemed to leave it to others. In fact, if I remember correctly, the wife of an ex coach was particularly engaged with the kids. Having said that, Cuse is a top 50 academic institution with a much higher overall graduation rate then SJU. In fact, I believe that SJU is at the bottom of the Big East schools in overall graduation rate and is maybe the lowest ranked academic school (US World and News) amongst the Big East schools. So if I'm a parent/grandparent/guardian of a talented basketball player who also happens to be academically inclined, I have to look at the whole picture: Coach, academic support, value of degree, majors, etc. I do not believe that even with CMA as our coach, it gives us a distinct advantage over Cuse or most other schools when recruiting an academically minded kid.

And sadly, a good portion don't take the opportunity to take a college education seriously. Its just a place for them to chill for a few years. And to think of the many who don't possess a basketball talent who would give their right arm too gain such an education but financially can't afford one.

The coach who communicates "I see the man you can become" instead of "I see the jump shot you can make" may or may not be the better coach but they are in my view the better person.

IMO if you are an elite player who is going to make millions in the NBA , a college degree and academics are overrated. It however , is more important for the marginal players that can’t make a living playing pro ball.

If academics was important to 17 and 8 year old basketball recruits then more elite kids would attend the Ivies, Patriot League, St. John’s Northwestern, Stanford, Cal, Davidson, Rice and others.

Just curious, have you taken the time to look up the graduation rate of the players who have stayed in our program over the last 20 years? If not, what are you basing your statement on?
