With no PG either.

Another example that statistics lie. Not turning it over is obvioously a very good thing but anyone who watches us play knows we have way too many poor possessions.

True, but at least they're poor possessions that result in a shot at the basket, no matter how poor that shot might be. ;)

True, Austour. Better we take a shot, even a bad one, than none at all. Also, TO's result in easy baskets on the other end.

While we are 3rd in Percentage in blocks. We are first in blocks with 99 over 11 games. I expect that this team will lead the nation in blocks as long as Obekpa is playing.

OK, I'm ignorant. What is "turnover percentage" and how is it calculated? (ttrnovers divided by possessions, maybe?)

Further Look at D-1 Stats - remember there are 341 D-1 schools.....

We're #1 in blocked Shots per Game at 9.0.
We're #26 in Assist to Turnover Ratio at 1.32:1
We're #28 in Turnover Margin at +4.0.
We're #58 in FG% Defense at 38.7.
We're #124 in Scoring Offense at 70.5.
We're #118 in Field Goal % at 44.8.

That may be just the reason why. We don't have a pg trying to make plays. We have guards who make the safe pass around the perimeter and than rely on one on one moves. it's like a qb in football that doesn't throw many INTs because he is a game manager and doesn't take chances and sling it all over the field ala brett Favre.

That is true. They are smart. They take care of the ball and make the safe play. Phil and Dee can hit an open guy. The problem is they can't really create opps for others.

That is correct

Thanks Scott...It seems like turning the ball over once every 7 possessions or so (14%) shouldn't be that unusual. Anyway, good going guys!

Never liked the turnover percentage stat. It doesn't really tell you anything by itself. It needs to be tied to assists or scoring margin or SOMETHING in order to indicate some kind of accomplishment. It COULD reflect a positive, but It could just as easily be a measure of "inactivity" or "offensive timidness" depending on the team. Now, a top "turnover percentage" COMBINED with an "assist to turnover ratio" - NOW you've got yourself a valuable stat.
