Sucess next season, how

I assume Coach Lavin coming back with extension. What needs to be done to get us to March?

First of all, we have five scholarships available. I'm sure we add some decent talent. We return one of the best back courts in the country. If Jordan comes back with a jumper...he could be unguardable. Branch and Greene needs to go back to the lab and work on defense...that has to be the backbone of the team and it all needs to start in the back court.

Add Antoine Mason.

Do I have doubts...yes. Do I think we are doomed....no.

Convince Obekpa to return
Sign ADR
Sign a JUCO or transfer PF/C
Sign a third scorer ie Mason
Hold team meeting and crack the whip, Put this season behind you and rally the troops. Everyone has to check their egos at the door.
Let Whitesell have more input in the gameplan or get somebody else who will turn up the defensive pressure and not tolerate the oley defense we saw too often.

That's a start anyway...

Respect your spirit Marillac, but I believe your doubts are warranted. All of our opinions mean little. I wonder what the people of influence at St, John's, employed or otherwise are thinking. That does matter when it comes to a contract extension and its terms. We'll see soon enough I suspect.

Three 'simple' answers:

1. Progression of Jordan from talented prospect to elite big-east point guard

2. Big man/PF to complement obekpa and contribute immediately especially in the rebounding department

3. Vastly improved free-throw shooting. It was the death of us in many big games...

The only games lost because of FT shooting were the Penn State game, the Prov BET game.

And if we won those two games then this season would be MUCH different.

No doubt, but that's not what Mike Abouttown said. Just correcting a statement without editorialization. Both those turned to wins and the team's dancing.

I like all of these, plus Jordan has to become a leader, similar to Ennis was for SU this year.

did not shoot well from the line in first creighton game and 2nd nova game...so there's 4 games. win 3 of those and we're dancing.

on second thought, two of our biggest culprits with poor free throw shooting were jakarr and gift. They are gone.

I replace my #3 with Harrison shooting better than 38% form the field for us to be successful.

I keep reading you guys mention A. Mason and Omar Calhoun. Am I missing something here, dod they show interest in St Johns or is this some pick some player out of the blue and recruit him thing? Isnt Mason a Sr next year ? Would Calhoun really come home to the Johnnies ? I doubt both.

Shot 70% from the line against Creighton.
Shot 70% from the line against Nova, while nova shot 50%

We can't blame free throws every time we lose by 3 or less, there are plenty of factors that can be cited instead. Agree that only games where FTs glaringly cost us were PSU and Prov.

Unfortunately Harrison's FG% will likely go down next season because without Sampson's offensive production (12 PPG) he will need to carry more of the load.

If that's the case we have no shot...
