Has there ever been such immediate excitement around a team that lost 11 straight and headed towards oblivion.
Three or four losses ago, I wrote that this team needed someone whose back they could climb on in big moments. Obviously Shamorie was the obvious guy, and we came really damned close to winning a bunch of those games. Now, not only has Ponds stepped it up in big moments, but everyone else is responding as well.
The key remains keeping the core guys on the court. The day Mullin took the reigns, at a huge press conference at CA, what he did promise that this would be the fittest team in the country. I don't know if that's true, but I do know that Chris even makes the coaches participate in his own crazy workout regimen. Our guys, most of whom are going the full 40 minutes, hardly look winded at games end.
Back on topic. Although we here are the long suffering fans who deserve some days in the sun, student passion is the fuel that ignites a home crowd. I'd be tremendously disappointed if CA isn't filled to the rafters on Saturday by students who have just gotten the first taste of big time wins. If last night is any indication, campus must be buzzing.
