Apparently we weren't the only ones who noticed.....

Shouldn't she have been in school today anyways???? lol

I know people do a lot of things to distract free throw shooters but that high pitched scream which she times perfectly with the shooter's stroke seems to me to be a bit beyond what's OK. Especially from the coaches daughter. Why not just set off an airhorn 15 feet from the shooter every time your opponent shoots a FT. I heard it clear as a bell from the 300's on the other side of the arena. If I had been sitting near her you bet I would have been talking to the adults she was with and doing my best to shut her up. No doubt in my mind it affected our shooters.

How about the fat loser in the sports coat sitting right next to her clapping and laughing, from the looks of that guy he shouldnt be within 100 feet of a child.

Usually I like to blame the refs for losses but in this case they did everything they could to hand it to us, so I'm with you guys. Either the TGAPL and braintrust need to figure out how to outwit a gradeschool girl or we'll have to recruit our own elementary schooler. On the bright side girls who are attention whores at 7 usually grow up to do butake, so there's that.

The last few comments seem a little strong guys. She is a 7 year old for goodness sakes! Everyone screams and yells to distract the opponent during foul shots. If they even heard her their concentration is to blame not her. All in All 2 good games from a young team that made mistakes down the stretch that can be fixed. I believe we are in the beginnings of a strong run at SJU. Goooo Redmen!!

The only reason that kid was heard is because MSG was empty of SJ fans as usual! A lot of print space wasted on this kid when it should have been directed on the real distraction off the court......Lav's beautiful wife sat a few rows down from me and her redmen red pants looked FANTASTIC!

Fans screaming or doing anything possible to distract a player is part of the whole process. The funniest was the Duke fan who would strip to his skimpy speedo and dance exotically. Any serious player has to learn to live witht his stuff, classless or not. To me at least, it crosses the line when the coaching staff's family participates in that sort of thing - it's classless on the part of the coach to encourage it from fans, no less his own child.

To blame it on a person screaming or yelling is ridiculous, especially a 7 year old It is part of the game. Everybody screams as loud as possible. If the player at the NCAA level can't separate himself from the crowd during a foul shot he should give up the game. This isn't CYO

After the first few times, an effort should have been made to locate earplugs for our free throw shooters. Other than that, see plandome4's post.

Man I was at the game and didn't hear a damn thing out of the ordinary. Maybe my ears are going.

Heard it on the tv and what she was doing worked. Some of the post on this thread is unbelievable, she is 7 years old and who cares if she is the coaches daughter. If the roles were reversed people would be praising her. There will place much louder places late in the season, they better learn to deal with it.

I think the fact is the bigger the crowd the better. It was empty so the isolated noise really stuck out.

Were you at the game. That was no ordinary screaming...it sounded more like a pig being slaughtered! A good lesson though. They should do that while they practice their FT's.

The point isn't that a little girl is screaming to try to distract players, I think the point is that it's the coach's kid and he is allowing that behavior.

I bet Lavin's wife would distract a few shooters if she sat behind the basket and tried to get their attention. She seems to get a lot of attention without trying very hard as it is.
