Reasonable, and with 5 reasonably tough games out of the first 9, unlike in other seasons, this will be a reasonably good indicator of how our season will go. If we got off at 7 and 2 or 8 and 1, raise the bar. If we are at 4-5, this may be a rough ride.

I thought we had a tournament where we were playing games on the 25th, 26th and 27th?

now its just one game against lasalle on the 26th?

You want respect? Then you go to TT and get a win, not make it close but lose in the end. Get that W and go undefeated in occ.
Gotta go atleast 3-1 in conf, let it out to everyone in conf that this is a diff sju team.

Now reality: we'll probably lose at TT and beat everyone else in ooc play.
You gotta 2-2 at the worst in the first 4 in conf, you go 1-3 and it's, oh well it's another crap start for sju in conf play.

*. Kenpom gives St. John’s an 87% of chance winning its opening game on Wednesday predicting a final score of 76 to 63.

*. Kenpom has St. John’s going 6- 4 over the first 10 games with losses to
Texas Tech
Yukon
Butler and
Creighton

I would love to beat TT at their place, but with the last 2 years of having a good ooc then falling in conf, I'm more focused with doing good this year with our in conf games.
Starting 1-3 is no way acceptable, and the so-called experts will look like they're right predicting us 9th.

Gotta go at worse 2-2, 3-1 to me is a statement.

Want respect? Then kick some ass and you'll get it. It's that simple.

Gotta see what we put out there. We have talent to win them all and we did win those types last year. We can do it again. I think we go 7-2.

Reasonable, and with 5 reasonably tough games out of the first 9, unlike in other seasons, this will be a reasonably good indicator of how our season will go. If we got off at 7 and 2 or 8 and 1, raise the bar. If we are at 4-5, this may be a rough ride.[/quote]

Someone correct me if I'm wrong. Don't CMA teams usually take some time to get early, but peak late?

Honestly, I loved the way we finished, but it was also a very small sampling of 4 or 5 games. Over the last 5 we went 3-2, but also were handled safely by Nova and whooped by Butler. Yes, we beat Marquette and Creighton, but 5 games is not even a mini run, and 3-2 not exactly world beaters. The 5 before that we went 1-4. So over the last 10, we went 4-6 in a conference where we went 5-13, and 2-6 over the last regular season 8 games. (7-13 if you count the BET). We were all excited about improved play, but this season will have to be much better if we want to be close to a bubble team.

Could certainly be the case this year trying to mix in a number of new pieces.

Last year we beat Arizona and West Virginia early on, so do think having tough games early gives us better chance to win. Team was playing very well at the end of last season.

I thought we were playing St.Peters on Wednesday.

Cma’s teams usually beat the teams they are “supposed to” beat. We beat teams like wvu and Az early as mentioned. I think last year was a bit different though because we had a new coach, new style and just tried to figure out what worked. Heron was injured and we probably tried that for a bit too long which hurt us. We played well down stretch because a lot of players who were glued to the bench or freshmen got better. Last year we really had a lot of stopgap players and bench players that ended up rising to the occasion over the season and really maturing. Guys like Earlington, Dunn, Champs, Rutherford among others were either low-level transfers in or guys none of us expected anything from, coming from the prior regime. We barely knew Earlington could contribute entering last season whereas now we know what he can do. Our only “big” was Roberts last year, and now we have several. Many of those guys became legitimate pieces and are entering as different players this season.

Then we talk about our additions this season, who are clearly more talented than CMA’s initial roster-fill class. New guys are going to hit the ground more ready than many of last year’s new guys as well as the returning bench guys.

Overall I see us being a lot more talented and a lot more ready overall this season. More experienced roster entirely. The only real negative is losing Figueroa, but we seem to have some talented kids that might be able to piece together that production as a whole.

Last year we didnt have the horses. This year we do. This is going to be a phenomenal season for the Johnnies. 2 days to go.

Getting close to opening night. We are all excited to see just how much improved we are. I'm gonna bet considerably with much more depth. The depth is very important for our style of play. If we can get into the opponents bench we may have considerable advantages once we either wear them down or get them in foul trouble.
