STJ Hawk

There is a Hawk visiting our campus quite often now a days, and from what I hear it has a nest somewhere on campus. It would be cool if we maybe could make it the school pet? similar to the Georgetown bull dog, and have it trained to do fly over around Carnessecca and the Garden once before each game.

Have a big cool aviary on campus where students and fans can come and visit.

My timing might me off but the day after I first heard of this Hawk we beat Cincy.

(Its all about gimmicks, and marketing to brand ourselves and differentiate ourselves)

its it? I have no idea.

We are the Redstorm, Our mascot is the Thunderbird, and our pet would be the hawk.

Isn't the St. Joe's mascot a Hawk. They already beat us out for "SJU." We can't have the same mascot.

It is but I always thought that was a temporary mascot based on Phil Martelli looking so much like the eagle (hawk) on the Muppets.

Some people confuse falcons for hawks. Becuase of the campus proximity to the airports (LGA & JFK), there are numerous falcons in the campus vicinity. Very few hawks have been seen but the few used at JFK for Gull and Geese management likely take a vacation from hunting evey now and then.
BTW, Brooklyn College has "adopted" numerous monk parrot families on their campus and has special habitats for them.

I saw pictures of the hawk. Pretty cute for a death machine :p. I think it might be too old to train though. It would likely have to be trained early on to get used to humans.

For those of you out of the loop here's the little guy!

Its the St Joe's mascot trying to get an invite to the Catholic 7

LOL I could see it now on the St. Joe's campus..."Quick...attach the note to his claws begging for acceptance...ok LET HIM GO! Come bring us back good news ol Hawkey!".

Ok: St. Joe's are the Hawks
USAFA are the Falcons
Peregrine Falcons is not taken, but neither are Penguins,Pelican or Pigeon

I would take any of them to get hid of Thunder. And I do have a place in my heart for Pigeons. Just think we could be known as the Flying Rats

He looks like a Peregrine Falcon to me by his chest. More likely since there are many that have bred around JFK airport.

The fact that it's perched in a tree makes it more likely a Red Tailed Hawk. Hawks hunt rodents and animals that go to ground, while peregrines perch higher and their prey is mainly other birds. Markings are similar but more likely red tailed hawk.

It appears to be the effen topic and I would not want some of then aviary morons here to continue making comments about the wrong bird!
Would you like it if we confused a Moose with an Ass? ( No appropriate smiley for this either) LMFAO!

Very low blow at Moose! :fight:

It's a hawk. I had a science professor who spent more time talking about that hawk than he did teaching us biology.

Your science prof should spend more time at the Gateway Bird Sanctuary (now temporarily closed) than analyzing Goddamn birds! Hawks like very high perches while Falcons will easily preen on lower branches....if the picture is to be believed.
