St. Mary's Game Thread

7 footer is gonna go after obekpa. Keys to the game are limit their 3s, keep obekpa out of foul trouble, and attack the rim in hopes to get their big in foul trouble.

This is a game that defense can win, their guards are small, we will score plenty, this game will have to be won on the defensive end

Carter & Bright shot 8/15 on 3's and had 41 combined points vs Creighton.

Also outrebounded Creighton 39-31

They committed 12 TO's in the game...we should put the full court press on them, i dont think theyve seen a team like us who can press and is as athletic as we are.

Had to be impressed with St. Mary's @ Creighton. Creighton played a good game and their crowd was really into it. They hit some really deadly 3s but St. Mary's never folded and hit a bunch of big shots too. They can really shoot the ball but from what I saw it seemed Creighton play a little soft on D. I think a big factor in our game will be turning them over but dominating the boards will also be important. They are going to hit shots but we can't give up the O boards like we did early against Syracuse. There will be less opportunities since they will not be throwing up bricks. Carter is their stud and he is shooting over 50% from 3. Harrison in his jock like Cooney would probably go a long way but he looks like he's faster than Cooney and got more overall game. He's also an intense player so him and DH could get interesting.

We need to do a great job defending the three and scoring on the break. We did that against Gonzaga and could have won. Gonzaga is much more skilled and athletic than St. Mary's but I think St. Mary's can shoot it as well from the outside.

If game is not sold out on Friday that will be very depressing.

Students are on Christmas break though

Jack my boy, when some of us attended St. John's there were no dorms and Alumni Hall still had over 5,000 fans for a ranked St. John's against a good opponent. For years now I have been hearing that the casual fans, Queens neighborhood fans and others that would take a kid or two to games have dried up because it costs a week's worth of grocery to attend for Carnesecca games. The special ticket offers to parishes and youth groups have also been put on the back burners to maximize ticket profits. In today's Internet speed world with over 50,000 alums under the age of 60 within an hour of campus there is no reason to pack the arena with special pricing offers for alums with children in the upper bleachers with email coupons days before the game. Creative marketing for Carnesecca games would be nice.

Looking forward to seeing you & Sam C! Should be a tight one, but I think we get it done.

I will be there. Because of my travel schedule this fall, this will be the very first game I attend this year!

Have you looked for ticket deals?

I can't post a link but Living Social has tickets for $21. Ticket price includes:

- One Upper level or Arena level ticket
- Includes a hot dog, soda and bag of chips
- Games included: St. Mary's, Long Beach State, Butler and DePaul

Amazon also had deals last year (haven't looked yet this year). Ticketmaster had a Cyber Monday deal buy one ticket get one free. Ticketmaster also had a deal for the Minnesota/Gonzaga games.

Lots of great opportunities to get ticket deals if you look for them.

I am not referring to researching for the lowest airfare for non-season ticket holding fans and students I am proposing direct emails to grads and students to try and get a few hundred more to attend Carnesecca games similar to the $18 package that includes goodies. The emails would go out just days before the game with links to purchase. They could do graduation class themes and offerings, etc. Offer students who attend every game a chance to win a car in Spring. Target clubs and Greeks to come to games. Build a culture among students that going to a game is THE thing. Bus in a couple of hundred mentally challenged adults from homes and have them chant "let's go redmen" for 40 minutes, Anything but the passive marketing going on now.
