St. John's / Yankee-Red Sox

Is anyone from Redmen going ???[/quote]

Despite my previous computer faux pas, I was able to get in and grab a ticket so I will be there.

It's probably going to rain. That's what usually happens whenever the Yankees have a home game on a day of the week ending in the letter Y.

Fortunately, you might be covered in Section 205, if you're sitting back far enough.

Can't make the game. But would love the to purchase that sweet hat. If anyone can proxy for me and grab me one I'd appreciate it. I'll take care of hat cost and a beer for your troubles :)

The five games I currently have or had seats for have been in the 200 level and covered. We will see about tomorrow night.

Game rained out, as the forecast is bad. At this point, I'm more shocked if they actually get to play the games at Yankee Stadium. I wonder if the Yankees regret not putting a retractable dome over the stadium.

To be made up on Saturday, August 3 at 7 pm, as part of a split doubleheader (originally scheduled 4 pm game, has been pushed back to 1 pm).

No roof!!!

Got to the Stadium about 5:10 and saw an e-mail from 4:55 that the game was cancelled.

Went back downtown to meet a couple of co-workers and well it’s about 11:00 and we are still hanging out. Glad all my meetings
on Friday are in the afternoon.

Oh, yes. I've pushed for a retractable roof over the stadium ever since plans for the place were announced in 2005.

IMO, too many games (and subsequently, pennant races and/or postseason series) are decided by the weather.

In fact, if I were ever granted the right to change one thing about baseball, without fighting with the union about it (although, I'm more likely to fight with owners, given my views on the game), it would be to put a retractable dome over all 30 ballparks. If your's can't support it, then you must build a new one (MLB will pick up the cost) that will.

Yes, that means Fenway Park. Yes, that means Wrigley Field. Yes, that means Dodger Stadium (heck, I was watching a game on MLB Network a couple of weeks ago, and fans were running for cover in San Diego). I want to take the rain factor out of the game, completely. The only argument against it, is that "baseball was meant to be played completely outdoors." Yes (which is why I'm pushing for a retractable dome, not that abomination that they have down in Tampa), but that's not mutually exclusive to what I want, and IMO, a completely open air stadium is an antiquated idea.

Hard pass.

There are good weather years and bad ones. This looks to be shaping up to being a bad one.

How about the morons that make the schedule not have Northeast teams open up at home before April 15th.

April 15th? We've had days in the low 50s in late May, for the last three of four years now. That's enough of a pattern to think that's going to continue. Plus, I can see the warm weather teams in a wild card race complaining that they won't be playing many home games down the stretch, compared with the team they are going up against. That happens anyway, but would be more frequent under your scenario.

Plus, there's the Stubhb factor. Their policy for a rainout, is to use the tickets for the makeup game, or try and resell. No exchanges. That's really inconvenient for people who can't make the makeup game, especially if it's played the next day.

A retractable roof is the only answer. No reasonable argument against it, IMO.

There are 2 arguments.
1. is money
2. is tradition of baseball being an outdoor game.

I'm the first to rip baseball traditions. But its meant to be played outdoors. Ever been to the sky-dome. When that roof is closed its like being in a cemetery. when its open its one of nicest places I've ever watched a game.

Only 1 of the last 10 MLB stadiums built has a roof. Marlins Park.

The Rangers new ballpark, which opens next year, will have a retractable roof. Of course, they need one for the opposite reason. They want to play day games in summer.

#2 is a stupid reason, IMO. I mean, where do you draw the line with that? No divisions? Higher pitching mound? No free agency? Segregation?

#1 is not valid, IMO. The owners are printing money hand over fist (they don't even pretend not to be, anymore), and with players' salaries actually having decreased over the last two years (the luxury tax basically serves as a very soft salary cap), where is the money going?

I agree with the need for retractable domes in our area. Citi and Meadowlands included.

Agree. And that is very different, and better than, a fixed roof.
