St. John's ranked 42nd in basketball revenues

OMG. We're screwed.

Why? 42 is actually better than I was expecting. It's better than what we've been ranked nearly all of the past 15 years.

Compared to top 20 we are a mom & pop operation.

Better than I expected but not too good considering the market we are in. I'll read the article, but probably includes Fox TV money

The list basically mirrors how often a team wins. We're in great shape once we start winning. Higher ceiling than most of those teams.

2014 Adjusted Revs. Valuation
1 Louisville $52,402,893 $367,435,000
42 St John's $13,749,753 $44,983,000

From the WSJ story-
Undefeated Kentucky is on the brink of one of the greatest seasons in college-basketball history—but the Wildcats aren’t even the most valuable team in their own state, according to an annual study.

Louisville, which lost to Michigan State in the Elite Eight, remains the most valuable men’s basketball program in the country, worth $367.4 million—more than $50 million more than second-place Arizona—according to a valuation by Ryan Brewer, an assistant professor of finance at Indiana University-Purdue University Columbus.

Valuation-
To calculate what a college team would be worth on the open market, if it could be bought and sold like a pro team, Brewer analyzed each major program’s revenues and expenses and made cash-flow adjustments, risk assessments and growth projections for each.

Louisville benefits from a lucrative home arena, the KFC Yum! Center, and college basketball’s most obsessed market. Louisville has had the country’s highest TV ratings among metered markets in college-basketball programming for at least the last dozen years, according to ESPN data. Brewer noted, however, that the gap between first and second is shrinking.

Noteworthy and probably very accurate. See Dayton at almost double SJU. Dreamers thought you could get Archie Miller, also Connecticut is almost triple SJU. Best Big East is Xavier followed by Marquette and Villanova who is just above SJU at 40 with less revenues. No wonder Big Ten wins so much. Revenues are not even close.

Schools that own an arena are obviously much more valuable, that shouldn't surprise anyone.
But the author is purely guessing at what SJU's revenues and expenses are for athletics . Private school so it doesn't have to reveal any of that.

I wouldn't put too much weight into any of that.

Dreamers also thought we could get Chris Mullin. Sometimes a dream becomes reality.

Right, and thank God, Mullin felt obligated to accept, otherwise I do not think things would have worked out as well.
