St. John's is a Sleeping Giant / Mike Vacarro

IMO Coach Mullin and his hard working staff have made significant progress in program building, class balancing and overall roster talent upgrade during their 2 seasons in Jamaica Queens.

The negative recruiting by the basketball elites has thus far scared away the bluest of the blue chips but I believe the top 50 players will be more open to StJohn's once it ears post season dance rights.

This time last I season I expected a losing record. This year I expect a solid season of improvement with an appearance in the Junior Prom (NIT) and a slim chance being invited to the Senior Ball. The early season non league games will go a long way determining StJohn's fate. It must win he games it is suppose to win.

Just like Rip Van Winkle ... who, unfortunately was bewildered and confused when he finally woke up. Hope that's not our fate as well.
