Attention all St Johns Alum, and fans/ supporters of the University. My name is Cesar Pozo , and I am a proud Alum class of 2009 . I haven't missed one minute of St Johns Basketball in 13 years. I have recently been working hand in hand with alumni relations , and I am proud to announce the 1st Annual St. Johns Homecoming 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament. We are raising 50k for three future St Johns students , we are currently half way there . All proceeds will be going towards the scholarship fund.
St Johns is currently trying to make Homecoming into a big event just like other schools do . We are 9th all time in wins in NCAA men's basketball history , the women's basketball team have been to the post season 11 out of the last 14 years 6 of those are NCAA appearances. The talent that has come through our athletics programs from golf to fencing , Olympic gold medalists from our track and field programs , and all of our other programs is undeniable. St Johns homecoming should be a big deal.
New York is basketball. In my opinion , this is the year when our men's basketball program turns the corner and never looks back . This is the year we rise , and bring respect back to not only St Johns , but to New York from everyone around the country . Between the foundation that is being built by this hardworking staff , the leadership in the university , I am confident in saying that. So I said to myself , what better way to kick off the season than to have a 3 on 3 basketball tournament on campus during homecoming in the city that is basketball. More importantly we are raising money for the future of St Johns, it is a great cause .
There will be an Alumni bracket and an undergraduate bracket . Both male and females will be playing . All ages are welcome to come play . Even if you aren't an alumni , and just a fan or supporter of the university please come to play you are still family in my eyes. Teams will be random - this is no different than going to any basketball court in New York alone and calling next , you play with strangers regardless. Another reason why I decided to do random teams is this is a great way to meet new people and network. This is for charity , for the future of St johns , but the tournament will still be competitive. 1st place, 2 nd place , 3 rd place trophies for each player on the team that makes it . Plus the Ron Artest MVP trophy. Rules will be up soon.
Between my talks with coach Anderson , Coach Tartamella, players from the men's and women's basketball team will be stopping by . I am currently still working with storm marketing to solidify the details I will post in regards to that when I get more color. Don't play at all ? come out anyway and enjoy the day . There will be a BBQ going on right in the back of tournament with plenty activities for the kids as well. Hall of fame dinner is the same night so who knows who else will be on campus that day .
