St. John's garb

It can't be vintage AND Red Storm. Distressed, yes, but "Vintage" not even close.

What they need is more selection and better basketball jerseys, (red, white, black, more numbers), the ability to customize, with your own name if you want, whatever number you want, and for heavens sake, stitched!! non of this press on stuff.

speaking of which, we have many teams that are good and nationally ranked, make jerseys available for every sport.

Red, I've been thinking this for years. Why can't they sell AUTHENTIC jerseys? Stitched, and exactly how it is on the court? Make it come in black, red, and white. Make SJ have a throwback day or 2 and then sell those jerseys. They can even be like Oregon and experiment with different types of flashy jerseys. The selection they have is so boring and more in line with mid major programs. You would think they sold 5 different types of jerseys alone. They are sitting on a gold mine if they market it right, but of course it's low on their priority list.

SJ won't listen to just 1 person...there would likely have to be a big petition with a few thousand signatures to even pay any attention to it. Also, Mitchell and Ness is way too expensive. $300 for a jersey is outrageous. No reason it should be more than $100 with tax.

We barely get a few thousand people to games.

You can still get a few thousand to sign a petition for much stupider things. You don't have to care about something that much to sign a petition.

And the people who read that petition know as much ;)

I just bought a hat, shorts and sweatshirt from the St John's website. I can wear the hat as I walk to work from the train. Just says St. John's. I own nothing that says Redstorm.

Funny because I can't even try to attach "redmen" to SJU. I always just knew "Red Storm". Too bad they had to change the name though...due to stupid political correctness. Native Americans complain about "Redmen", yet we have "Fighting Irish" and Irish people love it.

One mistake was compounded by another, IMO.

I would have preferred the nickname "Cardinals" instead.

Ties in with the color red and the Catholic affilliation of the university.

Our baseball uniforms would have been similar to the Cardinals of St. Louis.

The "cardinal" (the bird) is better mascot that what we have now, again IMO.

The name would have been changed to "cardinals" BEFORE Louisville entered the Big East so we can't use them as an excuse why it wasn't done.

What would it cost to have grey sweatshirts made up with the redmen logo emblazened on it and have the small Redmen . com logo placed in the upper corner or in the upper center on the rear of the sweatshirt.? I'm talking about the redmen logo that Paul has recently put on the site .

I like the fact that the Red Storm is totally unique, but it's just hard to make a logo. Our SJ logo is nice and classic, but the secondary logo of Johnny Thunderbird is pretty bad. I think a lot more could have been done.

Here are some old school shirts I found

I happen to like Johnny Thunderbird. I feel bad for the kid that has to wear it for 3 hours in a hot arena.
Nicknames do not win games and there are much worse names out there like Manhattan Jaspers, The Gtown Hoyas, the Maryland Terrapins, the St. Louis Billikins, just to name a few.

BTW, there is even a gay-friendly nickname out there----the NYU Violets.......but since they no longer play in D1 they should have changed their name to the shrinking Violets! LOL!

Jaspers is pretty bad, as is Billikins, but I think the Hoyas and Terps are great names. Most people immediately recognize just the turtle or the bulldog alone right away. The same cannot be said about Johnny Thunderbird (I know it's still very recent). It's a shame we couldn't keep Redmen considering the Washington Redskins, Cleveland Indians, and Atlanta Braves all do the same kind of thing.

When I met John Anderson I was going to tell him there should be a "this is Sportscenter" commercial with Johnny Thunderbird. Those commercials with the mascots really get them easily identifiable and more known. I wish we had a better logo/name. It still surprises me how a lightning bolt has not been utilized in our jerseys. I think it would be cool to have a grayish tornado with an SJ inside it as secondary logo. We can do way better. I would love for them to experiment with different kinds of jerseys...change fonts, colors, etc.
