Let me preface the topic as follows:

Growing up in Brooklyn my Dad, who served in Burma in WWII, taught me how to become a Yankee fan...many car rides up to the stadium...I recall watching - together - the Yankee- Pirate World Series and how upset we were as the superior team lost in 7.
(Subsequently I taught my son to become a Yankee fan albeit not from Brooklyn)

Well this week riding in my car I listened to the Yanks with such clear reception on WFAN. It was a treat. And I thought about this worthy topic.

I was an NYU Violets fan, Final Four team until NYU gave up Div 1 sports. I will always follow my alma mater Army with its great sports tradition - but they can no longer recruit successfully.

30+ years ago I joined friends - St Johns graduates - and began to follow the then Redmen. ( late 1970s - didn't we lose to Penn in the Final 8?) And now here's where the topic comes to play...

Out in the hinterlands of Sag Harbor, East End of Suffolk County, I get little to no reception on the crappy radio station that covers our team. I don't even recall the station SJU is now on. And I prefer to listen to the games on radio rather than TV.

Two of my favorite teams: The Yankees come in crisp and clear. SJU lousy. :(
We are rebuilding a once proud program. New staff. New recruits and strategy. New positive publicity...

Can we at least get real and get on a radio station that works??? A station suitable for a program on the rise???

We are St Johns! We are St Johns on a crappy radio station. No reason for that to continue.
Thanks, give me a shout if you agree.

The problem with FAN or ESPN Radio is that they will push a lot of our games to alternate stations, when there are conflicts with pro teams.

There's also the TuneIn app, which simlecasts the games. They're is usually a link provided on redstormsports.com, in the Multimedia section.

Thanks SJU6
but maybe it's a generation thing
I just want to keep it simple, turn on the radio, hear the game...
You know I feel very young but as a boy the trolleys still ran in Brooklyn (Trolley Dodgers etc.) there were no instant replays in sports events, no remote controls...no pop top beer cans, no iPhones...No nothing :)

Just sit back, chill, listen to the game and let your imagination run..."Hal Greer from the corner, it's good! And philadrlphia beats the Celtics in overtime!"

St. Johns used to be on WFAN way back when. I do recall listening to the games on the FAN. But as things go they gave up on St. Johns when they went into "the dark period". That is one of the reasons I am sooo glad the Mets are on an upswing and the Yanks are taking a little hit here. I hope WFAN loses their shirt on the Yankee deal.

Exactly what happened previously. But quite frankly it burns me up that if I can't get to a TV trying to get a game, I can hear Cuse, and schools from Pa.

Exactly if there's no TV available or one is driving, would be nice to hear, clearly hear the game in the radio. Should it be that complicated?

As far as a Met fan wishing the other NY team ill will ( unless it is tongue in cheek etc) "get a life" :silly:
There are enough big broadcast radio stations for the Yanks, Mets and St Johns! No way some of us should hear UConn or Syracuse over the Red Storm.

all the best

I got the IMG app and can listen on my phone anywhere

I am sorry all it is the "tune in" app. Img carries the St. JOHNS broadcast with Minko and BT
As for the Yankees, I do not like them at all but I do respect what they have accomplished
I am annoyed WFAN dropped the Mets after they helped build the station. Business is business and the Mets did not hold up there end for awhile. The Yankees are a good organization and won't be down for long. It does not mean I want to see them win:).
Well General. I hope to see you soon on one of my business trips to LI.

Thanks a lot SS&G! I thought by the title of this thread there was an announcement that WFAN was going to be carrying our games starting this season! :( :p

The point of this topic of course, bamafan and fan5577 is not the baseball teams, not to disappoint anyone...but
technology (which is not my thing) aside, let's just get on a decent radio station where we can hear the games - at home, in the car - I owe you a lobster roll Bama
:)

SSG, well you may feel young but if you rode on the trolleys in Brooklyn, they ended in Oct 56 and the Dodgers left after Sept 57, so remember, it's just a feeling. LOL

I am in CT and my Mets are hard to hear on 710 and SJU is impossible to get. So even though I am no spring chicken, getting the games on the phone make it possible and enjoyable. Necessity is the mother of; whatever. We do what we have to do. I do uderstand your point though. I just had to learn Connecting the phone to the car radio by Bluetooth to get my teams in the car.
Cant wait for the season. Looking forward to some big strides forward.
