St. John's Games In Brooklyn

Does anyone know whether we have any say as to who our opponent is when we play in these "double/triple headers" in Brooklyn, or which game we will play? Last year we were the "opening act" against St. Francis for the the Michigan game (I can't remember who they played). This year we were the opening act again vs Columbia in the Brooklyn Winter Hoops Festival for a triple header, with the headline game being BC & VCU. I assume the answer is that we don't have any say but I could be wrong. Does it bother anyone else that we have played two years in a row as the "JV" game in our own city? Yes, I know Barclays Center is not our home court, I get that, but it is still NYC, in fact Brooklyn was our original home as a University. The fact of the matter is that all of our Brooklyn games have been poorly attended (we can debate the reasons why) so why not try and make these games more of a headline type game, if we are going to keep scheduling them? How about UMass, Temple, or even a west coast team like UNLV? If we don't have any say as to who or when we play, does it really benefit us to keep playing these games in Brooklyn?

I know last year we had no say. Willing to assume this year was the same. Last year you recall Michigan and WVU packed the place, upper deck included. This year I only stayed for first 2 games but felt our game had the biggest crowd, and Tulane was so damn bad that should have been the opening game. I don't like playing at Barclays, I'd rather have another home game within season ticket package. One thing to think about is all our games there occurred during school breaks. You also see a lot of big schools playing real patsies during school breaks if they aren't playing in tournaments. Maybe there is a concern that with school on break CA would be empty? Though last game was a pretty strong non student crowd.

Who knows. I stopped trying to see how SJU thinks a long time ago.

Good point Moose about the students on break. Probably all the more reason to try and schedule a bigger opponent which may attract more fans, St. Francis & Columbia are hard enough to draw at Carnesecca when the students are in around.

Brooklyn is a pain the ass to get to for us manhattan guys. Barclays to the upper east is a heck of a trip on the subways. It's really not worth it to watch us play a crappy team. If we are going to play in Brooklyn it should be a more marquee matchup.

Personally I don't mind the Barclays unless it was going to take away games from MSG.

The 1 upside to the small crowd was I was able to find meter parking on the street. Actually 2nd bonus was there was this awesome taco, empenada truck on the way back to my car.

Is it really that hard to get to from upper east? That's where I live, and all you need to do is hop on the 4 from an express station, or take the 6 to an express station and catch the 4. I don't think it's bad at all. Now the games on campus, that's a hike. How do you feel about trekking out to queens?

I live on the upper east. it's a heck of lot easier to get to Barclays than MSG. MSG is three trains rides. Barclays is one.

I'm never on time leaving for the games so for me it's a cab ride to msg vs a long subway ride to Brooklyn. Otherwise I take the m86 across town and the train down or the M15select to the m34select. I also feel like you wait forever for the subways in Brooklyn.

I don't trek to campus! I go maybe once a year and I either wait in the cold by the court house in queens for my dad to pick me up or I meet him in Astoria for dinner and then drive from there.

And it sounds like we should start and ues sju fan club to watch away games.

Not a bad idea. Lots of fan groups have specific bar locations to watch away games.

Yeah but they also have more than 4 fans lol. Cuse packs east end on the ues. Their fans come from all over the city to go there.
