St Johns fans in the craziest of places

RMN will appreciate this since he ran into a bunch of CMA fans when he was at his kids basketball games on long island a couple of weeks ago.

Anyway the other day we are at the 15 Moai on Easter Island literally one of the most remote places on earth. Of course I'm wearing SJU Sweatshirt and Hat. There is probably only maybe 30 or so people there for sunrise pictures. A guy walks up to me and says " Hey St Johns !! ". The guy lives in St Louis but went to Kentucky. I guess he is probably in his mid 50's Kentucky is his team obviously but St Johns in his second favorite because of when Mullin played and he has been an avid fan ever since. Somehow he met Lavin a couple times and pretty much could be a member here he knows so much about the team.

Anyway here is the interest thing. He LOVES CMA. Absolutely loves the guy. Somehow he met him also but he follows SEC hoops etc and said he couldn't be more excited with us getting him. Says expect some growing pains but for the team to be playing a lot better toward the second half of the season. It wouldn't even be a believable story if we weren't walking downtown that nigh and Nathalie as my witness all the sudden we hear " Hey St Johns !! Again.

Stuff like this has actually happened before but this guy is hoops fanatic and I found it interesting his only connection to St Johns was Mullin playing and him becoming a fan then but that he has met CMA and seen a lot of his games

You sure do get around Mike - Easter Island!
Never thought I'd have anything in common with a UK fan, but since he roots for Johnnies as second team I can forgive his being a UK fan, especially since he went there.

Credit to Nathalie originally to be honest because she’s the one that inspired me to want to travel. I have a super crazy story it’s not related to St. John’s but there is no r&p forum so I’ll try and put it on this thread maybe tomorrow or the all things maher thread. :). Btw any soccer fans please root for Peru tomorrow against Brazil in Copa finals. First time since 75 making finals and this is like Brooklyn Cyclones bs Yankees. Back in Lima today to be here for the game tomorrow. Its insane here right now in anticipation and the funny thing is water got cut off for over half of Lima till Monday to work on some pipe connection. No mas showers

Were there any casualties on the field or in the stands when they beat Chile?
Hope you get to toast Peru with a few Pisco sours when they upset Brazil.:)

He wore the wrong hat but got the shirt colors right.

So, last month I was traveling through Budapest, Prague, and Viennaa.
I had on a shirt with a SJU label and sure eough someone on the street walking opposite me, see it, and yells out:
“LETS GO REDMEN”
There is no place on earth we can’t find some Redmen fans....at least for a few more decades.Hopefully St John’s fans will go on forever.

As a lot of you know, many people who shop at Stew Leonards often take pictures of themselves throughout the world with a Stew
Leonards shopping bag. We should start such a tradition and anytime we come across a St. John’s fan wherever we travel, we should take a selfie with that fan. :) Wearing our SJU gear, of course.

I envy you guys. The closest I got was sharing a pool in the Bahamas with some dipshit PC fan who ragged on Jackson Heights.
I envy you guys. The closest I got was sharing a pool in the Bahamas with some dipshit PC fan who ragged on Jackson Heights.
quick story. We were at some beach bar on Easter Island and the New Zealand older guys are with this young Chilean couple spouting off about how much they know of the world and then start knocking Chile and South America. Then one guy says he doesn’t like The US and the other says America has no soul. I almost flipped the hell out on them. They leave one of the loud mouths was so drunk he left his passport on the table. Was seriously debating throwing it in the trash but we gave it to the manager instead. We are driving back to the main town of Hanga Roa about 20 minutes away and we are stopping to drop another couple off at their lodge in the town center when Nathalie sees the 2 guys eating dinner outside at a restaurant. I jump out of the van and tell them “ next time you think America has no soul or you don’t like the US remember it was 2 Americans who were sitting next to you listening to your entire bs and got out of a van when they saw you to tell you you left your passport at the beach bar and gave your passport to the manager.” The funny thing is the next night we walk into a restaurant that has live music and there they are again. They come over to us telling us how sorry they were and apologized profusely then ended up paying for our whole bill. :)

I stayed at a resort once and Ralph Dalton (GTown Center who backs up Patrick Ewing) and his family were in the condo next door. Of course the first time I ran into him, I was wearing a St. John’s T-Shirt.

Actually was a nice guy.

Lives in NJ these days and is a very cool dude.

About 15 years ago I take my wife and son to the Grand Wailea in Hawaii for our wedding anniversary. My wife goes for a work out in one of my SJU shirts. Comes back to the room (that’s right I was to lazy and watching my son at least that’s my story) and tells me she ran into some big ex basketball player who recognized the SJU shirt. She didn’t know who the guy was but she “thinks” he is famous. Said he was a big dude.He was lifting weights and was nice to her. Later on I head down to the pool. Pool has a water elevator. Unbelievable. But I digress. My son is playing with these two little kids. After awhile a lady comes over and asks if it’s ok if my son could join the kids for some snacks. She said she watches the kids for their parents. She points to a roped off private cabana area. Sure why not. Let him experience of the good life.

My son comes back (at the time he’s 8 or 9). Curious I ask him who the kids parents were. He says I don’t know but their mom’s name is Cookie. She was really nice They said their dad played basketball. He was their too. He was nice too my son said. I saw the lady who was watching the kids and I ask who is their father. Oh, it’s Magic Johnson. My son is too young to care less. He has two new friends about his age.
So my wife meets Magic. My son hangs out with Magic and his family in a private cabana and I get to see and meet...no one.
