St. John's & Big East Discussions Making the Rounds

I know some on here don't care about what others have to say but you have to admit, the fact that the folks on the Syracuse & UConn boards felt the needs to start threads about either the Big East and/or St. John's to me is a sign that we are back to being relevant.

My favorite line is from the UConn board - "Seton Hall, St. John's & even Georgetown are way better than us right now and it's incredibly depressing".

To the UCONN fan: “May you writhe in turmoil for 20 years my son as penance for your repugnant behavior in your ‘glory’ years.
Reap what you sow, young man. Then, he shall be redeemed.”

My favorite line is from the UConn board - "Seton Hall, St. John's & even Georgetown are way better than us right now and it's incredibly depressing".[/quote]

There was an increasing number of loud whispers among people who know college bball back during norm's last season that st. John's should withdraw from the big east and move to a miid major conference. Lavin's hire and astounding reversal of fortune 1st season and early recruiting success dashed that.

Next when big east folded and uconn, syracuse and Rutgers left seeking $$ brighter pastures credit the remaining schools for hanging together and literally raising a new Big East out of the ashes. Even purchasing the name from the old conference.

Credit to sju and all remaining schools for creating a great conference. Outside of old hot rivalries, reason enough for us to root for all big east schools in the dance and reason enough to never forget that Rutgers, Syracuse, and uconn almost did to us. May they always be CUrSed and CONNvicted by their actions

I believe the buzz about us, not just on other boards but also in the local press (newspapers and TV) is a large part due to us being ranked. I know some on this board said rankings don’t really matter, and I get some of that, but being ranked also gets us buzz and publicity.

It's very simple. In a town like New York, with perhaps the biggest media market in the country and a town that is dying for a good team to root for, you will get all the publicity and accolades you could be possibly want if you win.

We are winning and have a fun style of play to watch. We should get a lot of good local press coverage this season which, hopefully, will be viewed in a positive light by prospective recruits for next season and in the future.

The team has been fun to watch. I think some of the "buzz" started PRIOR to being ranked as a couple of the games were sold out prior to the ranking.
The Seton Hall fiasco also (believe it or not) helped focus on what was going on. Now if they want to stay there they have to string some "W's" together in Conference. Fall flat and SJU disappears into obscurity because of all the other sports going on
