Had the good fortune to attend the 6th annual baseball dinner at The NYAC on Monday night. A fantastic event.
The university rightly honored former AD and long time baseball coach Jack Kaiser who has a nearly 70 yr. relationship with St. John's (going back to his days at St. John's Prep).
Over 60 former St. John's baseball players came out to honor Mr. Kaiser.
I think of all our sports programs, the baseball alumni are second to none when it comes to supporting St. John's.
We are truly fortunate to have men such as Coach Kaiser and Coach Carnesecca as role models.
How many other universities can say the same ???
They represent all that is good with St. John's and its athletic programs. They have devoted their lives to St. John's.
Just think of how many life's they have positively impacted over the years. Simply amazing when you think about it.
John Franco attended the event as did Chris Mullin.
Joe Panik, first round draft pick of the S.F. Giants, and a St. John's alumnus, was also there.
Terry Francona was the guest speaker and he "hit it out of the park"
No one hosts events the way St. John's does. They do it better than anyone else. Amen!
St. John's Trivia: Frank McGuire is the only coach to ever take a team to The Final 4 and The College World Series (1949 team which Mr. Kaiesr was the Captain) from the same school.
Line of the night: Lou when introducing Jack said: We both graduated from St. John's. Jack graduated with honors and I graduated with difficulty!!! (LOL) !!
