St. Anthony's High School (N.J.) Facing the Axe

This has become a regular occurrence and is really sad,

My HS (Bishop Ford) closed last year. My elementary school is closing this year,.
Hopefully SJU hangs in (LOL).

Wish he had the ego to be an assistant and we had the money to pay him $2 million to do so. He could donate half his annual salary to St. Ant's to keep them afloat, and we'd play consistent defense.

He's had ample opportunities to leave to be a head coach or assistant. St. Anthony's is his life and calling. Not every HS coach wants to coach in college and not every college coach wants to coach in the NBA.

To bad some philanthropist or company doesn't set up an endowment to help out.

How many of his players have gone on to the NBA? No deep alumni pockets?

They probably do get donations but evidently not enough for an endowment.

Probably not a ton. Bobby Jr. would have had the deepest pockets had he not gotten injured, so that hurt one potential major funding stream.

If the Catholic Church had done the right thing from the start, they wouldn't have spent $4 billion in lawsuits, and I'm assuming less schools would have been on the chopping block. Sad to see so many decent Catholic elementary schools both near my childhood home and my new home close down.

Be careful how you phrase that. It wasn't the "Catholic Church" it was individuals that made these decisions. Sick of people blaming the "Church" for everything when they'd be all over other people who made statements like that about any other group of people. I'm part of the Catholic Church and dealt with this crap through family and friends (one of the worst diocese in the country) who are part of the Catholic Church. We are the Church more than those evil frauds

Yes it's sad when your school closes. I am a Bishop Ford alum also and was there at the beginning - the first graduating class. A lot of good memories. Sad to see it go. The last vestige of our sports program lives on in Alliah Lewis, our own Johnny Point Guard.
