Spring Cleaning Notice

I kind of think in this case you went off topic because my post was about locking a thread because you believed everything that could be said had already been said, and was now repetitive.

Changing my critique to be about your pet topic of off- topic posts is in fact, off-topic.

Before you belabor the point about how hard it is to organize this site, i do believe that filing posts under the correct topic is kind of a pet peeve for you and I don't have a problem with you doing it. I also don't think the majority of users mind going off topic.

But to the main point of arbitrarily shutting down a topic because you subjectively think enough was said, I think of why people come here.

For many users, they come here to express an opinion. Whether it's been said before or not, really isn't that important to them. I don't mind - it gives folks a voice, and an opportunity to express themselves.

At least this place isn't like Quora, where topic moderator delete posts and blovk users they don't agree with - but maybe that's off topic too.

Look, I appreciate what the mods do, but id also say after close to 20 years on this site, I don't recall mods quitting or new mods appointed. it clearly must give you some satisfaction to maintain order or enforce rules. But it almost doesn't put any mod above respectful criticism.

Thanks in any event for all the work.

To be clear:

1. A mod felt that the RJ thread had arrived at a point where it consisted solely of the same thing being posted over and over again, and thus closed it.

2. Repetitively posting the same thing over and over is considered spamming the site and a violation of site rules.

3. Unfortunately some of the same folks took advantage of the Haggerty Award thread to restart the same cycle.

4. After it then went off-topic with certain folks predictably complaining about moderators moderating, which is what we do, I relocated the off-topic posts (some here) and edited the Haggerty thread title so that folks who clicked on it would know going in that they were signing up for more RJ posts.

5. See my reply to Rocket for my own view (probably shared by all of the mods) of what we are looking for. It seems a fairly modest ask unless you are of the view that folks should be able to post whatever they want wherever they want regardless of the site rules or staying on topic, in which event those folks should relocate to Twitter or some other unmoderated forum.

6. Yes, mods have gone on hiatus and quit outright over the years.

7. For some strange reason some folks who have been invited to be mods have turned it down - maybe because they don't want to deal with this nonsense.

8. As for what the mods get out of it, it's called "community service.". We are trying to create a space in which the St John's community can discuss the topics we host, while keeping things in the threads they belong in, banning trolls, and enforcing some basic rules. We are basically the unpaid gardeners in the community garden. We pull weeds, do some trimming, and allow people to plant their flowers because we also like flowers and we want the garden to be someplace everyone can enjoy.

Have a great weekend.

How about adding "keep your posts positive" as we all know that sometimes there are negative posts that just keep coming.

Fair comment and criticism is fine, as long as it does not cross the line of excessively bashing players or staff (particularly personally) since our purpose here is to support the program. But basic fan criticism is well in bounds.

I think you have opened up a Can that is difficult to close

I think Beast touched upon some things that are in a gray area .

When someone such as yourself or , any Mod post , are you posting as a Mod or , as a Poster like the rest of us. ?

And , where is the line drawn ?

You seem particular keen on limiting anything to do with Luis . Why ?

He’s a accomplished All American , BE POY ,BE Tournament MVP and the winner of the Academic All American
Award .

Our team benefitted greatly from what he brought to the Court this year .
And , winning games for us , with a clutch performance .
Last Second shot to beat UCONN at Storrs and his 27 point 2nd half performance Vs Creighton in BET Championship win.

Why can’t posters comment about his numerous accomplishments ?
And , you value that as many of us do .
He’s going to go down as one of the most heralded Players in our history . It’s going to be Mullin , Berry and RJ in our Rafters and Trophy cases for a long , long time .

Let me say this and you can take it anyway you or , others choose to . In my opinion and many others as well, Pitino himself had as much to do with losing that game as Luis did .

Few , if any other Coach in the Country would have benched their All American player in a 2 point game with 5 minutes to go ?

Answer ? None !

I’m sure Calipari took great delight in not having Luis in the game at that point .

I’m sure he was as disbelieving as many , watching across the Country were .
I think you have made yourself exponentially IMG_0761.gifclear on Luis, but;

In case you missed it, I did not lock the RJ thread. However not a single mod disagreed with that decision because it was felt that the posts were repetitive to the point of spamming the site and had made the thread unreadable.

Thank you for proving my point by continuing to beat the exact same dead horse.

Please feel free to post about RJ in the Haggerty thread which of course you promptly hijacked thus requiring it to be renamed.

And as a last point to you, Beast and anyone else who has the same idea - the moderators really do not need your advice about how to moderate, least of all by public post. If you are an Idea Man please feel free to PM any of us with your ideas. Or, if you want to engage in unmoderated blather, there's always Twitter or X or other platforms I'm sure.

Dear Slyfoxx1968
You have been asked repeatedly to stop posting the same thing over and over. You are now probably approaching 20 times conveying the exact same points and in different threads since we had to close down à prior thread which you insisted on ruining and now have the audacity to whine about it being shut down.
Just letting you know that future posts of yours of the same nature will disappear to thé gréât red.fans graveyard, like your prior post just did.
Consider this your warning, don’t ask where is my post like you whine about censorship.
