Dunlap is watching the CCCAA (Cali Junior College) state championship tonight Fresno City College v. Yuba. Interesting player for Yuba is Spencer Butterfield. He's a 6'3 205 kid that was a highly recruited football player, but chose to stay with his passion, basketball.

Went to the same school as Remi Barry, Loomis, and he's averaging 17 ppg 8.5 boards, 3 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. The kid is jacked and has a rep for playing really tough (Aaron Craft style). He's shooting 50% from three, making more than two per game...80% from the FT line. He also has 3.8 GPA and had a 3.9 in high school.

Apparently he can really get into the lane. He's picked up a bunch of D-1 offers including Utah thus far. Hopefully Dunlap walks away impressed.

Interesting.... I guess it's something worth keeping an eye on. Maybe, one of the mods can place this in the recruiting threads.

He isn't a recruit...hopefully that changes tonight. If I was a coach I'd offer him in a heartbeat. Eight kids on his team are between 6'5 and 6'9 and he leads the team in rebounding by more than two per game at 6'3. This isn't just a run of the mill team, it's a finalist in the most completive JUCO league in the country, currently beating the #2 team in the country for the CCCAA championship. These are the kind of kids you want with your 12th and 13th scholarships.

Our own Walter Berry played in the CCCAA at San Jacinto.

Why did he go to jc if he had a 3.9 gpa in high school? He must have really struggled on his SATs

You must have really struggled with your SAT's to post this nonsense. Kids go to jucos for a variety of reasons. He didn't get any D-1 offers, apparently because he was thought to be a football lock. He held a ton of d-1 football offers to play WR, but he wanted to stick with basketball.

That was a bad joke on my part. There are a number of wonderful students who choose to pursue the jc route bc they can't afford a four year school.

I believe the game has been played already. But, one can still view it.

Didn't shoot well at all in a 15 point loss.

Yeah, game is over. It is being replayed for those that want to view it and see Holt Dunlap get about two minutes:

I just saw the opening talking about Butterfield as the leading scorer and rebounder and I expected to see someone 6'8-6'10 and I see a 6'3 guard!

I would have found this thread interesting if it was about Spencer Davis and Paul Butterfield.

LOL sorry about that. I was just getting a bit creative with what might be EIGHT scholarships to fill. With Dunlap in the house, I thought Butterfield might impress him enough to land a scholarship. Not every kid can be a star.

Had a rough night....his team only trailed by one at half, but they were all over the kid.

8 pts 6 boards 3 assists 2 steals and a nasty tie up that should have been a steal where he just ripped the ball from a forward after a rebound. Good handle...only average lateral quickness. Probably not enough to make Dunlap think twice.

Old Town in Chicago, 1965, with Muddy Waters and Jose Feliciano just down the street.
