Solly Walker

Solly Walker is a story that should be celebrated for his courage, and the courage which our beloved StJohn’s University displayed in the face of racial inequalities.

i previously emailed former President Bobby (I already forgot his last name) and suggested that St. John’s players have Solly’s initiatives and jersey number patched on their game jersey’s to remember the bravery of Solly and StJohn’s.

Solly Walker: Such an inspirational saga of heroism and dignity that Solly personified. Kudos to St. John's for doing what was right. This is my favorite story of St. John's' strong traditions that captures its basketball as well as moral legacy.

And why has Solly’s jersey not been retired yet?
We had a long stsnding tradition of not retiring numbers. After Chris Mullin went to the NBA, Jack Kaiser had many requests to retire #20, and he responded, "How can we simgle out one player when we've had so many great ones whose number was never retired. While i don't believe Mullin's number was ever officially retired in a ceremony, it was off limits to incoming players. In Mullin's first year, the German kid asked him if he could wear that number and Mullin said, "if you csn beat me in a shooting contest, sure" i have a feeling Mullin tanked on purpose and number 20 was worn again. College only uses 0 to 5 digits, it is easier on refs calling fouls to signal the scorer's table

It would be a great gesture to retire walker's number despite all that.
