Dear St. John’s Men’s Basketball Season Ticket Holder,

On December 9th when the Red Storm hosts Niagara at Carnesecca Arena, we hope to enhance the St. John’s student experience and encourage continued student involvement in St. John’s Athletics by offering prime seats that are not being used by season ticket holders.

If you are unable to root the Red Storm on to victory on December 9th because of the holiday season and would like to donate your tickets back to the students so Carnesecca stays rockin’, please contact the Ticket Office at 718-990-6211 or email redstormsports@stjohn.edu.

Please respond by Monday, Dec. 7 if you are interested in participating in this student ticket donation program.

Thank you,

Just received this. Wonder if there are other creative ideas to get students there.

Actually, I think this is a great idea. Melissa has already taken one of my ideas and used it. I think that the school could be a little more creative in giving season ticket holders with desirable seats something back by giving them partial credits for turned in tickets at CA - maybe credits for Big East game where we won't sell out anyway where a season ticket holder may buy additional tix. At least in the first few D1 games at CA, we are very close to max student capacity so it would be great great to fill the lower bowl with students.

Nice job, Melissa.

I certainly did not think this was a bad idea. I should have said "additional" rather than "other".

I didn't take your post as negative in the least. Give the ticket office credit for being creative. CA can be a really fun place for SJU fans if we pack the place and a dangerous place for opponents to play. Students appear to be caught up in Mullinmania. Back in the day when Alumni Hall was sold out and there weren't student tickets, we lost an entire generation of potential fans because they couldn't get into the building. Ideas like this can rectify that when students want to come and there aren't good seats available because the lower bowl is for season ticket holders and the seats behind the baskets are gone.

Melissa is our wonderfully competent, resilient and buoyant ticket manager! We are fortunate to have her! She's endured her share of, what's a decent term, "hassle" " inappropriateness" "stress" from above, below and (?) horizontally...Good for you Melissa!

Section 1 mid and upper level is also reserved for student overflow. I don't think this is a terrible idea and it's a creative step in the right direction but I know if I were a student who dropped 125 on season tix and some schlep is sitting court side for free with donated tickets I would be upset. If it gets more people in the gym and turns them into fans though I'm all for it.

Also unrelated, but each of the last 2 games I've had to kick students out of my seats, one of whom gave me an attitude when I gave him the boot which I found funny.

Good post. Maybe the plan should allow upper bowl student tix holders to exchange them for the turned in lower bowl seats, and the "schleps" get free tix upstairs. I'm all for filling the lower bowl with students who make noise, which would more likely be season tix holders.
