QUEENS, N.Y. – St. John’s redshirt senior attackman Eric DeJohn has been named a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.

DeJohn is the fourth unanimous selection to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team in program history marking the fifth year in a row that St. John’s has had at least one unanimous selection to the all-conference team. Last season, Mark DiFrangia became the first-ever Red Storm defenseman to earn the honor and Former St. John’s All-American attackman Kieran McArdle garnered the honor and was named BIG EAST Preseason Offensive Player of the Year in 2013 and 2014. LSM Dillon Ayers was a unanimous pick to the preseason all-conference team in 2012 and 2013.

Today’s selection to the Preseason All-BIG EAST team marks a memorable weekend for the Syracuse, N.Y., native. On Friday evening DeJohn became the sixth St. John's lacrosse player to be selected in the Major League Collegiate Lacrosse Draft after he was selected 60th-overall by the Rochester Rattlers in the seventh round.

DeJohn highlighted the Red Storm's dangerous attack in 2015 as he led the team with 64 total points scored and ranked fourth in the league with 38 goals on the season. DeJohn was also the BIG EAST leader in assists per game with an average of 1.86 per game. The redshirt senior ended his memorable campaign with a first-team selection to the All-BIG EAST team.

The BIG EAST Conference also released the Preseason Coaches’ Poll on Monday, which has the Red Storm picked to finish sixth, just one vote shy of fifth-picked Providence College.

St. John’s enters its 2016 campaign under the tutelage of 10th-year head coach Jason Miller, who looks to build the Red Storm’s success with a balance of experienced upperclassmen and a large group of talented newcomers. Following a 3-11 finish (1-4 BIG EAST) in one of the toughest schedules in the program history, Coach Miller returns 24 letterwinners and welcomes 17 newcomers. The Red Storm will once again face a challenging schedule in 2016 as the team will matchup with three opponents that participated in the 2015 NCAA Tournament, including defending National Champion and BIG EAST foe Denver. Six 2016 opponents are ranked in the Nike/Lacrosse Magazine Preseason Top-20 Poll, three of which appear in the top-10.

Following a pair of exhibitions against the University of Massachusetts and Hartford, the Red Storm opens its 2016 season on Feb. 13 with a 1 p.m. matchup against Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J.
