SJU in the Hall of Fame

For those who may be interested, I was at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass this past weekend and SJU is well represented. There is a glass wall at the entrance with quotes from a half a dozen coaches, one of whom is Louie, and Louie is pictured and mentioned elsewhere in the Hall in several places, as is Joe Lapchick. A few schools and coaches are featured in exhibits, including Bobby Knight, Dean Smith, Duke, Kansas ... and St. Johns. The St. John's exhibit is now my avatar/profile picture.

They could probably do a whole lot more with the HoF (video, interactive features, etc), but if you are a hoops junkie it is a lot of fun to walk around the Ring of Honor and read the blurbs on the inductees.

My personal favorite was the exhibit on the Harlem Globetrotters. Biggest disappointment was that the ABA does not exist in the HoF (although the ABA greats do). I assume there is a reason for that, but I don't know what it would be.

Great post, thanks Lawman. Too bad the ABA isn't recognized as a league, the NBA should just get over it. It's been 45 years for heaven sakes. The one thing I've always respected about the BB HofF is that they recognized (and inducted) players from all areas of the sport including Eupopean playeers, women, etc. To ignore the fact that the ABA ever existed is just ridiculous.

Anyway, good to see you made the trip and that St John's is still well represented there.
