SJU Golf Academic AAs

I was at the St. John's reception today with my wife.

Had an opportunity to speak with SJU President Gempesaw for about 10 minutes.

My initial reaction was extremely, extremely positive and that he is, without a doubt, the proverbial breath of fresh air.

A first-class individual.

Very genuine.

Ego-Neutral.

High energy.

Down to earth.

Not pretentious in the least.

Worked the room and made the time to speak with everyone that attended. Will be an effective fund raiser.

Extremely personable, has hit the ground running and is reaching out to all constituities (Students, Faculty, Alumni, Staff) on a pro-active basis.

Believes in "Management by Walking Around". Will not be someone who stays in his office and is insulated.

Truly wants to learn what is on the mind of our alumni, in particular. Expect him to reach out and listen/hear what you tell him.

A great hire for our alma mater !

The Q&A with Keegan and Andrew was great fun. Both represent St. John's with a ton of class.

Law School Dean Mike Simon, The Dean of the School of Pharmacy, Billy Schaeffer, Lav, Jason Miller (Lax), Baseball Coach Ed Blankmeyer, and of course, Golf Coach Frank Darby attended the function.

Jayson Williams also came to the event.

About 65 or so in total atttended.

I'll put it this way: I would expect to see him at a lot more than a few games this season.

He definitely understands what basketball means to the St. John's community and NYC.

Thank you. That is certainly refreshing and good news for fans of SJU!
