SJU Dance team

The SJU dance team really deserves a shout out for their incredibly good work. Saturday at the Garden, they literally got the loudest ovation of the day with a fantastically well choreographed and executed routine to Lady Gaga's born this way.

Seven or eight years ago when the dance team added it's first male member, at the very beginning there were some snickers among a few in our fan base. The kid (Chris I think was his name) quickly proved he was a great dancer, and that squad placed 5th nationally in a competition. I saw him outside outside CA once and congratulated him on the 5th place finish and confided that except for a couple of small errors in their final routine they would have placed first.

It takes a lot of guts for a guy to dance with a nearly all girl's dance team (this is the first year we have 2 male dancers), and it's possible that Saturday's routine was their best effort to date. I don't know the kid's name but my Godson who has taken dancing lessons (and CrossFit) for about 10 years now, saw him once and said, "That kid can really dance!"

I think as a fan base we've come a long way from the first night that brave kid took the floor or 8 years ago. The squad gets huge applause, and the male dancer has always been a focal point.

Congratulations to the entire team. They are certainly almost worth the price of admission, and on some nights the best performers on the court.

100%

i wish i could remember the young man's name from years ago who was our first male dancer. he was certainly a pioneer for st. john's. hopefully one day he'll be officially recognized as such.

and to me it's funny when visiting fans come to our games. at first they chuckle at seeing a male dancer, but by the end they're on their feet giving a standing O.

i'm proud of our dance team. i'm proud of the young men who are demolishing stereotypes.

go johnnies!

Agree--the Dance Team were great on Saturday, as usual. I find that I stay at my seat at halftime until they finish their routine. We now have two male dancers. The fellow who started last year is a dancer at heart and by training as I spoke with him after one of the games at CA. It is amazing that he retains his weight as the energy he uses for their practices and performances is incredible. The new male dancer is also very athletic. Always proud of the entire dance team and their routine at the 8 minute time out in the second half is fantastic for getting the crowd into it.
