After the Mullin announcement at least 5 of my friends who aren't sju grads were declaring on their Facebook pages they were now switching their basketball allegiance to sju ( they weren't switching allegiances from other big hoops schools they went to smaller schools ). Thought that was interesting but didn't think too much of it though.

BUT today just went to costco and I saw at least 10 people wearing SJU shirts, sweatshirts or hats. Even when I was getting my free samples of pretzels with blue crab dip the guy serving it noticed my SJU stuff and started talking about Mullin and how much he is looking forward to seeing him coach and how he is going to start rooting for St Johns

If and when we start winning I'm starting to think this could be something much bigger than I originally thought with Mullin leading the way

With the Knicks as bad as they are there is no doubt that Mullin can own this town. Fingers crossed that he can put together a competitive team next season. Very important to get off to a good start and keep the momentum going.

Yes Mullin can be the king of NYC, but don't sleep on the knicks. They'll get a high draft pick + will have over 30million to spend in the off season

We've done something that many on here have been longing for, even if just for a few days, we've taken over the back page of the newspapers.

Took a short road trip to the Costco in Wayne NJ last week. It's the largest Costco I've ever been in and has a GREAT wine department. Picked up a few bottles of their own Old Vine Zinfandel for $9.99/bottle. Could easily sell for $20+/bottle. I must go back before they sell out, as it's that good. I know your fiancé is a red zin lover and your Costco post made me think of that.

I'll show her your post :) The costco by us on long island doesn't sell wine. They have some beer but no wine for some reason.

Even up here in the hinterlands of Western Canada, Mullin's return to St. John's is unassailable. My friends who follow college hoops have had a pretty good 20 year run of mocking my commitment to St. John's basketball, but this week pretty much shut them up.

Unlike the Fraschilla/Jarvis/Roberts/Lavin hires, this one raised eyebrows and even got a "Wow, I love Mullin..."

The best dig anybody anyone could muster was "What's the back page of the NY Post in two years? Mulli-gan?" (Gotta admit, that one's not bad...)

Not bad? That would be horrible! ;)

But they're still the Knicks. 1973 is starting to feel like 1940 no? :)

Sadly, so is 1985.

Spoke to a former SJ baseball player...said he is going to get seasons tickets again

I watched Chris Mullin play with admiration and in awe at his skills. Even with that, I had no idea that the announcement of his return to SJU would trigger the tidal wave it has. Residual respect and appreciation - not just for how he played but what he stood for - has had a ripple effect well beyond basketball circles. This is a true phenomenon.

This city is begging for SJU to be good again.

Glad I sprung for season tickets five years ago. I don't think they'll be difficult to get now, but the choices may not be in the best locations.

If we start winnin the casual fan will return much quicker with Mullin at the helm.

Went to a local sports bar in Hollywood tonight to watch the Final Four. Wore my St. John's t-shirt. Waiter was from Brooklyn. Gave me a high five and said he was totally pumped with Mullin's hire. The Mullin love is bicoastal!!!
