SJU # 27 All-Time

Not sure about AP polls but we were #4 behind Kentucky, Kansas and North Carolina. Indiana and then Duke followed us on all time winningest programs. Duke now #4 and a few programs jumped ahead of us.

If I remember correctly, when I joined this site, there used to be a banner stating we were top 10 wins all time. I joined this site nearly 15 years ago!

We are still top 10 wins all time even with some vacated. Currently #9

An April 2005 special edition of Street and Smith's magazine had SJU rated eighteen. Norm just finished year one.

I went to a game that year and bought a program. Shelton's brother was listed but I don't think he ever actually was on the team. Funny that always bothered me, but forgot about until now when that picture reminded me of it.

Anyone know the story behind poor Greg Jones? Hopefully he had a copy of the program and could use it to get laid claiming to have been on the Final Four team. I guess that could also have worked for Rob Cornegy who was on the team but probably would have been asked to supply the program as proof.
Back to Jones they were from Ammityville did the house make him disappear? So many questions.

When I was in school (late 60's-early 70's), we were #4 nationally in total wins

and third in winning percentage. My how the mighty have fallen.

Would still be in the top 10, if the 46 wins with Keita weren't vacated

Sorry, I was talking winning percentage.

Quick question. Do those vacated wins become losses or disappear entirely? If they become losses then if they weren't vacated STJ would jump above Louisville I think. If they just disappear then STJ would jump over just Arizona.

Do you remember how many were vacated?
How many will NC have vacated when their scandal is adjudicated? ;)

St. John's vacated 47 games (46 wins and one loss) from 2000 to 2004 after Abe Keita was ruled ineligible.

Keita led SJ to a record of 46-1? .

Okay clarification. You only have to vacate wins unless the loss is in a tournament and you generated revenue in participating, which you then have to give back.

So Keita played in 46 wins and 1 tournament loss, 8 minutes against Wisconsin in 2002.

I don't get it either but those are the stats I found.

I think it has something to do with being in the same conference as Yukon at the time. (otherwise known as the UCONN Tax) where Central CT was penalized for players buying books for friends? They couldn't just ignore all those felonies happening at Yukon at the time right? The laptop heist, the shoe heist, the dorm room burglaries, the recruit rapist all happened around that time. Some Central Conn book enthusiast athletes (can't have those guys spending money on Literature or Science!) getting hammered and Keita getting $100 for living expenses was an honest trade off for 47 games and zero penalties for yukon right? If I recall UCLA also had a recruit bragging on a plane about his illegal benefits at the time too and they just knew that eventually L'ville was having way too much fun and the truth would come out at UNC. Won't even touch Penn St or Syracuse...
