Who is this guy? He is absolutely awful and terrible to listen to. He tries WAY too hard and exaggerates even mundane plays. Saying stupid stuff like "Merci!" for Felix or "I just saw a man fly!" for Pointer, etc. is irritating. Don't get me wrong, I want some life in announcers, but once they start trying too hard a la Dick V. it gets really annoying. How does this guy still have a job? It seems the general consensus is that he is really annoying and hard to listen to.

he is the update guy from mike & the dog the only guy they could afford since Harry booked the playboy mansion in cabo for the super bowl for his cuevo gold meets vitamin water mixer bash what a freakin racket hes running

Iam gonna start a new cable show called university stakeout soon check ur local listings

If tru tv is interested I could be shooting it in 3 months

I agree with Joe, the guy tries too hard. I go to games but I had no idea who he is. I assume he only does the STJ-TV games that are picked up by ESPN3. This season, For the first time in a while, I cannot attend all home games. It is the first home game I've caught on ESPN3.

As a Yankees fan, I despise John Sterling. Too much schtick. Trying to be talked about. This guy seems like he too is trying to get noticed. Do a good job without the nonsense and you will succeed.
 
I think who Joe is talking about is the radio announcer, not the in-arena announcer or ESPN3 announcer. Right? If so, I have not listened to a game on the radio, only the post-game show while driving home, but I'm a WFAN fan so I have an affinity for him.
 
I think John Minko and Tim O'Toole do a great job on radio. Tim is very knowledgable and John is very professional. I think they are one of the better teams we have had since Gary Cohen and Ed Coleman. Tony Luftman seems pretty intense on the call, I have also noticed he is a WWE wrestling announcer.
 
no he is talking bout the guy who worked with Tarik on espn3. he was a lil over the top in his calls lol. He tries too hard , but at least he is being positive towards us. I'd rather have a guy over the top, then someone killing our team all the time.
 
I'm talking about the SJ-TV guy...just way too loud at moments that don't require it and gets too cute with his calls. I like announcers with genuine reactions, not artificial ones. Something about his voice is like scratching a chalkboard and he's trying to be too John Sterling like "The Grandy man can!", "Whattaya know? Robbie Cano", "Oh Curtis, you are something Grand!", etc. I'm probably just nit picking but can't they find someone better?

if it's half as good as your brother's show, it's a winner!!! i don't think joe3 is referring to minko. he wasn't on last night. bloomberg screwed st john's and put yet another channel on airing notre dame football. f-u bloomberg!!

minko sounds like he snorts helium every two minutes. that's the style today. his sidekick is waaaaay better than turner who completely fractures the english language.
 
I think Tarik has improved a lot over the years although the play by play guy was driving me crazy with the french stuff last night.

Luftman has been awful since he got here.
Got canned from his last job and Lav got him the STJ gig.
He does STJ baseball and softball games also.
He is brutal.
Miss Ralph Bednarcik.
Tarik has really gotten better.
As an aside, doesn't Marco look like he's ready to pack his bags right about now?
 
The play by play guy - i like his enthusiasm, he just has to tone it down a bit when the Johnies make a good play. He screams into the microphone too loudly in those instances - when you cause static to screech in a telecast, you know it's a bit too much. I agree with Joe3 and Mjmaherjr - that i hope he doesn't turn into the next John Sterling, attaching idiotic sayings about each player that he just uses over and and over.

One thing I will say though, I prefer him over some fuddy-duddies that have called some of our games in past years. He does bring energy. He's kind of like some of our players - just need to be corralled a bit.
 
On a related note, the Indian (?) guy who comes on the court for in game promotions is horrendous, almsot a joke all by himself.

The dance team has also lost a lot since the guy (the best dancer on the team by far) graduated.

Yes! I appreciate some excitement, but it was so over the top at times that it could seem sarcastic. Sir Dom could be picking his nose and he would say "OH MY GOODNESS! SIR DOM PICKING A WINNER!". I feel for Tarik...his ears must be ringing after the game.

You're right.Tarik has gotten much better...Most analysts display some degree of "homerism" and he is not immune to it but he provides good insight and remains pretty objective...

Luftman has worked for professional sports teams. Ralph exudes amateur hour. Whether or not he was fired at his last gig or not, everyone is let go from jobs. Colorful play by play guys get attention. Dickie V, Gus Johnson, John Sterling. Like them or not they get attention and their subsequent calls often get highlighted during sports shows.

And good to see your analyzing how Marco looks and feels on the bench. Nothing beats some good old transfer rumors in November from how someone 'looks' on your 15 inch computer screen ;)
