Sir Dom or Amir?

Since Sir Dominick seems to be getting a fair amount of criticism on this board, would things be any different if Amir had stayed and Sir Dom transferred?

It would be a push.

But at least Amir hustled and could give you something on the offensive end.

Neither one of them worked on improving at basketball during the offseason but at least Amir had a legitimate excuse not to.

Dom making the Jordan Brand game will be the highlight of his basketball career at this rate.

Still give it to Dom.

After we beat Creighton, Pointer said something in the post-game press conference that made my blood boil. He was talking about the 3-pointer that Manigat missed with 28 seconds left. Pointer said that he- and he alone- made the decision to leave Manigat WIDE open to take that shot (which would have put Creighton ahead) in order to double-team McDermott, because Pointer didn’t want McDermott to beat us a second time.

Manigat *barely* missed the shot. Pointer said “I took a chance” and “if it didn’t work out, it’s on me.” WTF?? That is not his decision to make! He’s become a big liability to this team.

I think Dom could be an threat on the offensive end, if he put in the same effort he does on the defensive end. He has a high ceiling, but I don't know if he will ever reach his full potential. If he does I think saying he is an NBA prospect is not that far fetched.

I'll give it to Sir Dom. His ball-handling has gotten better. Not great, but better....I still hold my breath. And his free throw %age has been much better. So good job on that. I can deal with the errors of aggressiveness, but I can't deal with the stupid flagrant fouls and getting into on-court pushing and shoving. Those have been killers at times.

This is actually a great topic.

Dom SHOULD be playing in the same role offensively as Amir played. Amir pretty much lived on the baseline about 6 feet from the rim, and filled the lane when we would get action to the rim. He used his energy to finish plays around the rim and to offensive rebound once in a while. You rarely saw him put the ball on the floor from 18-20 feet out, you didnt see him lead the break. He wasn't a refined offensive player at all, but he had a role (likely thanks to Mike Dunlap).

Dom SHOULD be filling a very similar role as Amir did until he improves his offensive skill set.

Good post. Amir was very effective at driving a few times per game, and being a lefty pretty much gave him his first drive for free.
IMO, there is no contest. Amir was our biggest hustle guy by a mile. He sacrificed his body for the team, and you could always see him following shots, being thrown to the floor, etc. You never see that with Dom. Amir also had a decent outside shot that would have only gotten better. He rarely played outside of his game. He was a good athlete, but he didn't possess Dom's gifts. But what is the use of Dom having those gifts if he doesn't ever use them? Dom hurts this team and there is no way Amir would do anything but help.

We beg these kids to play for a St John's education and then rip them when we think they are not hustling, or not good ball players.

Any ballplayer should be rapped for lack of hustle! If you can't hustle don't play the darn game!

What happened to Garrett?? Transfer or quit for baseball?

Transferred to Cal State Northridge. Had to sit out last year due to transfer. At spring training now in Cinn Reds minor league, and will probably be playing again for Dayton, A ball

Marillac prediction....

Garrett will average 17 points 6-7 boards and 2-3 assists while shooting 33-37% from deep, and he will see at least one NCAA tournament and be given consdieration for a 2nd round selection in the NBA. I like that CS Northridge team a lot next year. I think they'll win 20+ the next two years.

Great topic, Amir was one of my favorite players, and he loved St Johns. I think Dom is the more useful player for us under the current circumstances, because with Jakarr and Sanchez, there isn't much room for an additional 4. Dom, despite his shooting woes, does distribute the ball pretty well.

I think the better question, and one I've been asking since last spring, is why was it OK for Lavin to force Garrret out so we could sign Jordan?
We batter other coaches (Pitino) when they do this, why does Lavin get off the hook?

"Where's Garret, Lav? Where's the boy?"

How many times have you seen CS Northridge this year?

We know each other from our days at St. John's. There is a solid core of posters that I was forunate enough to have met during my time at St. John's. I have been posting since I was in high school on Big East Briefs. There were some classes that had such all-star posters as Marillac, Moose, HittheGymYouSlob/Black Stallion, and others.
