SI campus - racist social media post

There is no place for that kind of ugly nonsense at St. John's or any other college campus. University has to send a clear message that it won't be tolerated.

People losing jobs over anything that even hints at racism should hardly be labeled acceptable.

Unfortunately there are total jerks everywhere at every level of society. Sometimes idiotic things are done by kids who atthe moment thought it funny or that friendships with people of color gave them license.

15 years ago, a predominately white fraternity at sju lost its charter because on a scavenger hint list, a member thought it funny to put one dead n_____ because a black kid was pledging. The black kid got the outrageously pffensive joke, but his roommate didnt think it was funny and reported it.

A white kid at bc had to leave school this year because while drunk he thought it funny to take marker to a blm poster and i sert the words "dont" photographed it and sent it to a black buddy who is also a student. The campus exploded for a week or two.

Hopefully there will come a day way long before the stupid, racist commentary ceases, where the intented party of such derision says. Im not offended, because stupidity and hatred dont define who i am. I understand there is a long history of hateful words becoming unspeakable violence, and that alone is reason to be intolerant of any such rhetoric

Unfortunately, history has taught us over and over again that words matter. I just have no patience with this kind of stuff.

Unfortunately, you nailed it NCJohnnie.
Words and pics matter.
This was a sophomoric antic, but it stings nonetheless, and it is unacceptable.
The University should be both firm and fair in its response.
There's no room for hate in a civil and just society.
