SI Article - Big East, UConn & ACC

I think that Cinncinati will likely get in to the B-12 soon. UConn however has such a repulsively sucky football team that their basketball will need to show that it is still truly elite, not just respectable, in order to get into a major conference.
When/if the AAC dissolves, I could see UConn & Temple perhaps putting their football in the MAC (where is belongs) and attempting to rejoin the BE for basketball.

I agree but I don't think the Big East will ever take a school that plays Div 1 (or whatever they call it these days) football. I guess if there were some serious penalties in place in case they try bolting again it's possible but after what football did to the original Big East members, I don't see UConn or Temple in the Big East any time soon. It's unfortunate b/c like them or not, they both would elevate our conference more than a Dayton, Richmond or some of the other schools that are rumored to be next in line.

i really like the fact that UCONN was left without a dance partner in the new BE OR ACC. Their repulsive fans can now be obnoxious in the Hardford civil center and other second tier venues.

They are being paid back by all the hijinks of the CalHOUN era.. Good rIddance Huskies.

They have a game in Brooklyn next week, and another pair of games at MSG two weeks after that. UCONN and Syracuse are still going to play multiple games in NYC whether we like it or not. Their fans will lose out on the tournament, true. But in truth we're all losing out, because the BE tournament will never be the same.

St. John's is lucky for this to have turned out as well as it did. At one point it looked like the basketball only schools would be scrambling for mid major conferences. This has gone about as well as possible under the circumstances.

But Desco what's better: getting kicked out in the quarters and watching from home as Louisville and cuse play in an electric garden, or making it to the finals and watching st johns play gtown in an electric
Garden?

Not losing in the quarters and beating whoever in the finals.

I can't see any scenarios where UConn is attractive to the ACC any more. I mean, UCF is a more attractive program at this point. UConn football is irrelevant. In basketball, they should have a pretty good year this year, but will lose a lot moving forwarding don't have Calhoun to sell any more. Their fan base doesn't travel like they used to either. The Garden hasn't been full of Husky fans since the Jarvis years. What do they bring to the ACC?

I don't see any scenario by which Temple gets admitted to the Big East Conference.

Screw UConn. I want Memphis to drop football.

That will happen in the next 3-5 years...sooner if the Big East gives them a take it or leave it proposal.

They really should. It's not worth it to upgrade their program, and they have a phenomenal basketball following in a great regional addition for us. Memphis would be great to just concentrate on basketball and other sports. Would love to see it happen.

Does anyone know the details of the AAC's media contract with ESPN?

I can't believe is pays all that much.

Otis, that depends on what you believe is "much", about $17M per school per year on average. However, according to the article at the link below, it is still behind the Big 12, Pac 12 .

Here is a Forbes article that thinks they got shortchanged.

Here a link on the BE deal with Fox.

Subsequently, CBS signed a sublicensing agreement with Fox to televise BE games.

And here is an article on the gamble someone thinks Fox is taking.

Absolute same thing could be said about UCONN with the Big East tradition to go along with it.

Terrible. Much less than the deal given to the Big East. NBC low balled them and ESPN matched the deal which was their right.
Cincy. UCONN and Louisville are killed this year but the Cardinals have a way out. Big East buy out money has saved them though.

Sports Illustrated journalist @georgedohrmann is going on a bit of a Twitter rant right now encouraging certain schools to drop football.

I don't want to see the BE expand so fast. If schools like Memphis and UCONN drop div1 FB, you want room for them to join the BE.

I still would not invite uconn, even under those circumstances. I would rather see them rot in Storrs, I mean hell.
